Have a Squier, want to update to a Fender P-Bass

I just want a regular Fender P-bass sound that's all. The sound I am trying to mimic is Mike Dirnt's basically but not necessarily excatly like him. A punk tone. I guess my Squire VM will do the job? Would it be necessary to change the pickups? Do the Squire Vintage Modified P-bass pickups sound...

Alright, so swapping out the "Duncan designed" pickups is all I should have to do basically? So what pickups should I choose if I want the same as on the MIM Fender P-bass? Anyone know what pickups are on the Mike Dirnt Fender? Thank's a lot guy's for your help.

Does the Squire VM P-bass picks buzz more than the MIM Fender P-bass?

Have a Squier, want to update to a Fender P-Bass

I am quite surprised to hear that Squire basses have such a good reputation that you can even compare it to a "real" Fender. I always assumed that it was a budget copy Fender wannabe. Like I said, I always like my Squire Vintage Modified, but I always assumed that I would have to upgrade to a...

Have a Squier, want to update to a Fender P-Bass

That's really nice to hear because I always thought that Squire was some sort of Fender wanna be budget crap. But I like the bass, it doesnt weight much and the tone is pretty nice. I never played a Fender P-bass though so I cannot compare them. I have played a Fender jazz bass and it's a hell...

Have a Squier, want to update to a Fender P-Bass

What does MIM mean? The Squire I have is Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass Olympic White RW. I have thought about getting the Mike Dirnt Fender because I like his tone, but I am starting to think that getting a regular Fender P-bass Mexican might be smarter since maybe it is more...

Have a Squier, want to update to a Fender P-Bass

3800 swedish crowns is about $480. I don't think it's that much money to be honest. A new Fender Mexican P-bass in Sweden costs about $900 so it was pretty cheap in my opinion. Can we move on to my bass questions now?

Have a Squier, want to update to a Fender P-Bass

Hi Guy's! I bought a Squier Precision Bass for about $480 a year ago. The bass is very light and it did a good job during the recording of my album. The sound wasn't as heavy maybe as I expected so I had to mix a lot and add depth, but with some mixing it sounded nice as hell. I see a lot...

    Squire Precision Bass

I don't think it is any electric equipment. I tried all of that. Also, my Les Paul humbucker is dead silent. And the Mic Preamp (TubeMP) doesn't really sound like crap. I get a pretty good sound...you can listen to my recordings here Link Removed It's just that I want to get rid of the hum...

    Squire Precision Bass

Charling, thank you for a great answer. Very kind of you. I don't use a DI box. Just straight into the TubeMP Preamp and then Cubase. I talked to people at a music store and they say it is definately a single coil problem. They say all single coil buzz and that you basically cannot get...

    Change pickup on Squire

Awesome! Was it worth it? You notice a big difference? In what way? Is it less noisy? Still wondering about original p-bass pickups though.
