Double Bass newbie question - buzzing

While the luthier had the bass, I decided to go all in. I had him replace the cheap, non-adjustable bridge (the prior owner used metal washers to adjust the height) and install a new poplar sound-post (he insisted it would give me better sound with a plywood bass). I've had the bass back for a...

Double Bass newbie question - buzzing

Sorry for dredging my own thread. I took the Thompson to a luthier who specializes in upright bass. He thought my action was not bad, albeit a little high at the nut. After fiddling with it a bit he recognized that the buzzing I was getting was being caused by the note marking tape I used to...

Double Bass newbie question - buzzing

I picked up a used bass 6 weeks ago on a whim (Thompson RM-100). I already play mandolin so I thought this would work out. I am starting off with a bluegrass bass primer book/video. I am making good progress but I start getting buzzing where I am fretting after playing a while. I assume that...

New to upright bass and the forum

Thanks. I am sort of a do it yourself kind of person. I will see how that goes and then maybe look into live or online lessons

New to upright bass and the forum

Hello, I been playing mandolin for two years (mostly bluegrass). I also play a little guitar. On a whim I picked up a used Thompson plywood bass. My plan to to learn some basic bluegrass and maybe join a few jams (once COVID ends) Happy to accept any advice. I started off with the "Upright...
