    Great Australian Bassists

Can't believe no-one mentioned Steve Kilbey of "The Church". 30+ years and still going strong with heaps of great bass playing.

Does your abilty to play well vary much from day to day?

I understand we all have off days, but what I wonder is how people overcome this if they have a public appearance that day. Imagine someone like Gary Tallent with the E Street band. 40 years of 3+ hour concerts that have an awesome rep and "off" nights are verboten. Maybe it's like a...

    Drum Machine Software

I use "Hydrogen" it's free and comes with a full kit and you can write complete songs with it or just use it with a click on the beat. Works on Windows and Linux, and is certainly a "Fancy metronome" :-). http://sourceforge.net/projects/hydrogen/

    Audacity style app for android.

Hi all, can anybody suggest an app for jamming with on an Android tablet? I use a Vox amplug into a laptop and use Audacity for practising. Is there an Android app that will do similar on a tablet for even more portability? I don't need all the features, just playback and...

MIM P bass: well known users/recordings?

This always confuses me. Surely the amp and any effects used play some part. A MIM through a vintage Ampeg is gonna sound a whole lot better than a MIA through a Kmart amp. So can we really ID basses blindfolded? Or only through the same amp with no changes to settings?

MIM P bass: well known users/recordings?

A little old band called "The Beatles" did ok with Epiphones and Hofners, when it suited. As did "Oasis" with Epis. Some other guy did Ok with a parts strat called "Blackie". And that Eddie guy with the Kramer wasn't too bad...

How do I know when to upgrade?

    Audacity? Help Looping

Hi again, There's a couple of neat ways. 1. Highlight desired section and set playback speed , then choose Shift + spacebar to loop section. 2. Choose section and set speed as above then go effects=repeat=number of times. Hope this helps:-).

    Audacity? Help Looping

Use your mouse to highlight the section, just like you would to "Copy/Cut and paste" in other software. Go to start of section with cursor, left click and hold until you reach end of section and the section should be highlighted. Harder to describe than do! :-)
