Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

I guess if you can't fix it in EQ then splitting the channels to adjust the volume would help.

Ok, but I don't understand the benefit of blending 2 stat pick ups?

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

I don't understand the benefit of using two pick ups that are pretty much identical. In my experience, blending 2 sources into one amp works best when you use EQ to take the best qualities of each for a good overall blend. For example using a mic for the highs and a pick up for lows or full...

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

For my bass, the putty made the sound kind of compressed, a little rounded and muffled. It would probably be good if you needed really high stage volume though. I just installed the Stat B the way it's recommended. I super glued the wedges in and sliced and fine sanded the cork until it was a...

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

Stat B success! It's taken a little while to get this pick up to sound right. Don't make the same mistake as me and try and save money by not using the shertler pre amp. I tried to cut costs by using the 48-10v step down and it wasn't clean enough gain. I tried mounting the cork parts with...

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

I think I was trying to save money and cut corners with this. I thought that using shertlers' voltage step down gadget I could run it straight out of the AI amp. Time to get myself a pre amp. I think the Stat B is going to be really good once I get enough clean gain.

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

I've experimented a pick more with the placement and pressure on the pick up. The sound is good, fairly natural and not boomy at all. I'm using a little blu tack over the cork and a pea sized bit behind the plastic to gently wedge it in place. Stat B > Schertler 10V power adapter > XLR > Clarus...

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

I got my Stat B yesterday and did a quick test. I think the wooden wedges gave it a harsher sound and a little cork underneath seemed more pleasing to the ear. My first impressions of it are, the lower notes are deep and powerful with good clarity and no boomyness, The higher notes are a bit...

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

I was hoping to find a supplier my side of the English channel to save on shipping and potential import charges. I'm surprised that there isn't one. Shertler's website seems to sell at a much higher price than everyone else.

I'm about to invest in this pick up but can't find a UK/European supplier. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Is there much benefit in spending a little extra in the pre-amp as some people attest to with the Ehrlund or is it really just to supply the phantom power. I use a clarus 4+ so theres plenty of EQ and gain.

Thanks, an xlr to jack apadtor and the 48v to 10v gadget needed then.

I'm trying to work out from the 4+ manual if the phantom power works on both the XLR and Jack inputs but can't find the information.

I'm enjoying this thread as I'm interested in the Stat B Vintage. What are peoples opinions on feedback resistance?

Double Bass An Ehrlund blog, sort of

Interesting, I would think it would give a less boomy/boxish sound
