    Low-wattage 15" speaker

Would an 8 or a 10" noticeably improve low end response?

    Low-wattage 15" speaker

Those all seem like fair points. I'd be happy if it was a little quieter actually :D My goal is to ideally increase low end response w/o sacrificing anything else, so if a larger speaker might actually achieve the opposite I suppose I can investigate other solutions. Yes, I realize the open...

    Can you be more specific?

    Low-wattage 15" speaker

Howdy TB, been a little while. I'm thinking of replacing the stock speaker (12"/12W/8Ω) in a Fender Musicmaster Bass amp (12W RMS/26W peak) with a 15" speaker, preferably also 12W/8Ω. Right now the amp gets good distortion and that's what I'm aiming to preserve--I use it for guitar sometimes...

    Ampeg V4B ohm question

TomB and Jimmy, Thanks for your input (no pun intended). Good to know it's not too serious of a worry. I'll be more careful next time too! Just for clarification, which combination is the more problematic one? Having an amp run at a lower impedance than its output speaker(s), or vice versa...

    Ampeg V4B ohm question

I suppose I'll revive this old thread with a tenuous newbie question... I'm struggling to comprehend the relativity in terms of having a higher or lower impedance on one end, and what that means as far as damaging equipment...perhaps a plainer explanation of what not to do could clear things...

    Hard rock light touch

Man there's some really good advice and philosophy showing up in this thread. Props to everyone who's contributing.

    Hard rock light touch

Well put. As I failed to mention in my last post, I used to play a lot harder a lot more often, because that was what came naturally to me. I've come under the habit of using a lighter touch as I've gotten older--paying more attention to my energy output--and as I've explored playing with a...

    Hard rock light touch

I've heard that relying on/boosting your mids (and potentially, dare I say it, turning down the bass a little) can help when playing live. I've had some success experimenting with that in live settings. That of course depends on the frequencies your bandmates are dishing out. As was said, if...

    Singing what you're improvising?

Yeah, it's incredible to hear that from someone who's really trained their relative pitch. Not a terribly common occurrence.

Sound hole cover for a Martin 00-body ABG

I have to say I agree with the general reaction to this, haha. While I can appreciate the simplicity, I'm just not the biggest fan of putting duct tape on anything I spent over $1000 on. Out of curiosity, is it even thick enough to make a difference?

Sound hole cover for a Martin 00-body ABG

Interesting. Any method to follow there, or do you just kind of stuff them in?

I take it you have experience with Lute Hole covers?

Sound hole cover for a Martin 00-body ABG

I didn't think of going DIY. Not my first choice, for the reasons you've stated, but I think I'll look into it anyway. You never know what you might find. I'll just have to go and try it out--hopefully my local music stores have it in stock. Thanks for the tips!

    Two overdrives in one?

There's one called The Chimera made locally by Richard Flickinger in Raleigh, NC. It's got a clean boost ("clean") and an overdrive ("mean") on the same pedal, triggered in sequence. Not sure how it would fare on bass...I haven't had the chance to try one out. Link Removed
