    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Thanks, AgedHorse. Would you mind elaborating, please? Is it that the PCB layout won't reflect the schematic - which I expect is the case? Or something else? I mean, would you be able to do this?! :-)

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Thanks, BC. Yes, always an option - it certainly won't be scrapped. But, looking at the schematic, the PSU section is quite separate from the amp part on the same board, literally joined by two 'wires'. So, any reason why a perfectly valid solution wouldn't be to install a separate PSU to...

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Not much luck at getting an affordable repair - typical rates are £95 per hour min. Time to pass it on to someone with the skills :-( Curious - looking at the schematic diagram, if it is 'just' the power supply part that's failed, would an option for someone else (not me) be to install a...

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Thanks all. I am quite familiar with soldering, so would find it straight-forward to replace the rectifier, and mount a standard cap where the defunct SMT one is. I'd happily try this if there was a decent chance that's all that's wrong! But since there's probably a greater chance that more is...

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Thanks again. If I go 'Fender', I suspect it'll be prohibitively costly. I don't suppose you have any idea of ballpark figures for that board? I'm thinking the only sensible options are to either pass it on for someone else who can take on the repair, or hang around for a dropped and smashed...

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Thank you - as I feared :-) I won't probe any further, as I hope it'll be a relatively ok task for a more knowledgable person - the amp is otherwise immaculate. Cheers.

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Ah, it does say "2. ALL UNPOLARIZED CAPACITORS IN uF, 10% OR BETTER; 50V MINIMUM." So, 0.015uF? Wow, quite small. Would a blown one of these really stop the PSU from operating at all?

    Fender Rumble 100 V3 - blown cap.

Hi. Son's FR 100 is 'dead'. Opened it up and found an exploded surface-mounted capacitor - C357. Thanks to another thread on here with a link to a schematic, it appears to be 0.015 and 630V. http://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Original/10002/Rumble%20100%20V3%20Schematics-Diagrams.pdf Before I...

Fender Player Series Jazz Bass MODERN - any reason why not?

Thanks to some great advice from this forum, I am looking now at a new Fender Jazz bass for my son, most likely a Player series. Now... there's the 'modern' version which - as far as I can see - has double pickups which are switchable so can be selected to act as the standard singles. I'm...

Is this Mexican Jazz particularly good value?

Lol! Thanks everyone. Pretty clear there is nothing exceptional about 'that' MIM at all... :-( I'd just done an ebay search for Fender Jazzes, and it seemed keenly priced amongst the others. MCF's link to that Player shows that absolute beauts are available new for sensible money. Great...

Is this Mexican Jazz particularly good value?

Thank you everyone! Wow - what a response! I have to say I'm very impressed at how measured the replies have been - balanced and genuinely helpful. A new Squier or Fender Player seems a much better bet, so thanks for this :-)

Is this Mexican Jazz particularly good value?

Many thanks Diab and eccles - that's all very useful info. I do have a high regard for Squier (as I do Epiphone) but my son if fed up of me buying 'cheapos' and would like one decent guitar/bass! I hadn't realised that this era of Mexican-made was not so well regarded, as I had understood that...

Is this Mexican Jazz particularly good value?

Fender Jazz Bass MIM 1996 | eBay This is within reasonable collecting distance to me. It would be for my son who is very keen on a Fender Jazz. This one sticks out as being really good value as it's a 'true' Fender and not just a Squier. But... am I missing something?! Thanks.
