I see that everyone here is talking about fingers "vs" pick but as you probably know there are plenty other of other techniques for right hand such as : tapping, slap/pop, sweeping, strumming etc. All these techniques can be executed in different ways aswell lol

You could Choose to play in the same tuning that the guitarist, you could tune up your E-string to an F# if you like to ;). That's what Dick from Meshuggah does I believe!
