is is a defretted 924 or a factory fretless 940? what's the serial number on the back of the headstock? just the first two digits if you prefer- that tells us the year. the electrics & pickups varied quite a bit, but all the schematics are sort of available. was there something specific you...

I'd grab it at that price. the case is worth 1/3 of that even if it is the wrong shape for a musician. btw, the 'normal' musician shape is very much like the shape of a fender jazz, & I've often used a fitted jazz case for mine. here's a blurry picture of my 1982 mc924 in our most recent...

agreed. I fit blend pots to as many of my two-pickup basses as I can, without ruining the look. so... all the jazzers... I got lucky on ebay aeons ago & found a pickguard for a 4000 that had been cut for the second pickup but still only had two holes for pots. I added a third, & that was my 4001...

sounds like someone's been tinkering with it, maybe someone who wanted VVT & went about it wrongly.

1981.... this is my 1980 924LE. I had my 1982 924 for a long time before I started jonesing for the version with the older pickups, but I knew from owning several other musicians that they'd tinkered with the electrics too. if it's like this, then you don't get the panpot pickup blender of the...

ah, so you don't have the remains of the bridge pickup to use as a cover for a j-bass pickup? & the electrics are gone too? well, you're in the right place for help. I'm sure someone on here was 3D-printing covers, & the schematics for the electronics have been posted a few times.

strings- get some black nylon tapewounds. I've been using d'addario ETB92 (50-105) on a number of basses here, including several musicians fretted & fretless. they feel lighter than they are, though the tension is actually very similar to the same-gauge rounds they replaced, & they aren't as...

I used to work at Mtv (1993-2010) in london, & frequently took my MC924 to band practice there. copy the list from the post above & stick yourself on the end! :-)

I have a 1982 MC924 with the three-band, blend pot & no pickup switch. the lack of a compensatory volume control when you engage the eq is really irksome. I guess I could add one without banging any more holes in it (I already added a two-colour LED to remind me to unplug the thing! & a...

the eq in the studio bass I have here is intriguing, & I suspect its workings are exploiting the reactance of the pickups to achieve the variety of mid-range variation the thing is capable of. mine's fretless, & I find the eq really useful. so even their more 'conventional' two- & three-band eq...

so now I've gone mad & started putting tapewounds on everything... expensive! I even found a set today (there went another £80!) for my reissue fender VI. the tokai jazz has them now, as does my go-to 924, which latter sounds even better than it already did. I thought they'd be really heavy, &...

also, I'm not sure that the tri-switch does exactly the same as the one in the L1000....

that's lovely, & looks several shades lighter than the rather dark standard DS. people on this thread & elsewhere have described how difficult it is to restore the original look to a musician that's had its DS interfered with, but I'd take that on mine anyday.
