    all-tube amp for practice recommendations?

Wasnex is correct. Perhaps in simpler terms, I think of it as altering the character of the voicing of the amp from more articulate to softer (dare I say 'vintage'). Really useful IMO.

    all-tube amp for practice recommendations?

I really love the Ashdown Little Stubby (and feel fortunate to have one of the UK built prototypes). The feedback control (not at all what I'd expect from the name) makes it much more flexible than the Little Bastards IMO - changes the character of the amp quite a lot, with all being useful...

    Jazz Bass Reverse Gear Tuners

Yes, the Fender Japan ones are closer to 'real' vintage as far as the gear ratio goes while the AVRI ones (starting in the 80s) are 'improved' with a higher/finer gear ratio. Yes, lots of detail differences between Fender's reissues and the originals, even on the early Fullerton ones.

    Jazz Bass Reverse Gear Tuners

Gear ratio on 2B (the 83 Japan) is closer to original pre CBS era. The rivet on the AVRI being flat on one side is closer to actual vintage which did that as well. The posts on both are different than the actual vintage ones (which were chromed, less sharp edges and no center notch).

Who Has a Bass No One Else on this Board Has?? (Part 3)

Seen the first promo shots of the sales sample gold guard P basses? Note the neck heel - and the single screw tugbar:

    Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

Related, I've probably posted this before, not sure... Here's an interesting oddball, original gold bridge from a '61 Oly White 3 knob Jazz Bass. As gold parts were seldom used there was clearly some lag, and wanting to use up what was on hand. This bridge was obviously originally meant for a...

    Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

Looks right to me. Finer thread saddles, more squared off backplate. Maybe someone else will notice something I don't but I don't see an immediate red flag.

Who Has a Bass No One Else on this Board Has?? (Part 3)

Reminds me of a bass from when I worked at Jim Messina's studio in the mid 80s. It was the bass he used in Buffalo Springfield and it had what looked like a 50s P-bass neck on an early 60s body. The neck had the squared off heel and it seemed to fit the body like a factory job IIRC. It wasn't a...

Who Has a Bass No One Else on this Board Has?? (Part 3)

That's wild. Given the 12th fret initials, I'd have to bet that's the same bass.

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

Soooooo.... given your user name, while oddly specific, I'm still going to guess you weren't the guy with the bag of gopher heads ;) And here I thought the throwing of personal items at Tom Jones' shows was strange.

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

re: "clothing optional" gigs, here's an actually suitable for work (and TB) shot from one of those, if a bit blurry. Drummer went al fresco. That's a 1960 Fiesta Red stack knob Jazz Bass. One of those that I REALLY shouldn't have sold...

    Whatcha watching?

Always worth the rewatch. Like Dr. Strangelove and The Great Dictator, perennially relevant.

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

Very cool and ahead of your time. I don't know if you know of The Deaf Club in San Francisco. It was a legendary early punk venue and a lot of the regular deaf members attended the shows as they were loud enough to feel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Deaf_Club I was roommates in the early...

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

Hard to pick one... I've also done the "clothing optional" thing a number of times. Pretty good gigs actually. Played a private party with a bunch of potheads (back when it wasn't legal anywhere) where every break tended to be a "band meeting" and only halfway through realized it was an FBI...

    ID This 1960's Bass

That's a Danelectro made Silvertone 1448 (sold at Sears - and hollow with Masonite top and back) Edit: these were also notable as they had cases with built in amplifiers:
