    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

Not quite — the stickiness is still there, but not as pronounced. Reading the other comments makes me think the blacks may have more similarities to the browns. I do notice the D and G strings to be a tad smoother (and glossier in appearance), but that was also the case with the whites. As far...

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

I just tried out the new Thunderblacks on my 23” MB fretless. First impression: Very similar in sound and feel to the original whites.

What Is Your Favorite Bass Solo of All Time Regardless of Style???

Geddy Lee on Freewill. Although you only hear his bass by itself for about 10 seconds before the lead guitar kicks in, he still continues to shred thruout the entire band instrumental solo. That’s the first one that popped into my head, but there are so many others worth mentioning.

Most Iconic (not best/most technical) basslines

"I'll also say there are like 15 Motown hits that could make the list so I'm just I know I'm missing tons." And on that note (pardon the pun): Papa Was A Rolling Stone

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

I can't speak for the difference in sound/feel of the ME-bass vs the M-bass, but in my experience it seems like the M-bass was never meant to be played with anything other than polymer strings. I've tried several different string types including the silverbacks and Lavella flatwounds (even...

    Why play a fretless bass?

Because I hate fret buzz. My fretless helps me to believe I’m better at playing bass than I really am because it doesn’t buzz like mad when I play it! Seriously though, as so many others have already so eloquently and accurately described, fretless just “sings” and fits my style of...

    What do you wish existed?

    - An effect that makes each note I play on my bass sound exactly like a note played from David Gilmour's guitar (in the typical David Gilmour/Pink Floyd sound everyone's familiar with). - A fretted bass that does not produce the dreaded "fret buzz" (I know, I know...that's on me and not the...

What's the first lick you ever learned on bass?

I heard this one the other day and it stuck with me enough that I'd definitely recommend for first bass line: "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" by the Temptations - a textbook example of a simple yet iconic and rock-steady bass line.

If you couldn't play Bass anymore......

Piano, hands down (pardon the pun). Lovely instrument. I am in total awe of any accomplished pianist. Lately I’ve been listening to the solo piano work Rick Wakeman has done in recent years...really fun and pleasant stuff to listen to.

What Song Intro Causes You To Immediately Turn Up The Volume?

Digital Man - Rush Those drums, that bass...’nuff said.

What's the first lick you ever learned on bass?

Rikki Don't Lose That Number...probably one of the easiest opening bass lines ever.

Top 5 Worst Concerts of all time

Wow, I guess I'm lucky because I didn't realize how difficult it would be for me to pick 5 bad shows out of the countless concerts I've seen...at least of the ones I can remember! The bad concert experiences I do remember were due to outside factors unrelated to band performance. Pink Floyd...

your top-5 concerts of all time?

Rush - Spring Training '82 Tour (first concert ever) Rush - R40 (had a feeling this would be the last time I'd see my favorite band live...turned out to be true) Dick Dale - 1996 tour (this guy defined the phrase "blew the roof off the place") Living Colour - 1989 tour (front row in a small...

Jaco the world greatest bass player ...

I'll admit I don't always "get" Jaco, but the parts I DO get make me realize there's no doubt his unique talent put him in a league all his own.

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

Finally tried the Superior Bassworks strings out on my MicroBass. The verdict: No, no, and no...way too stiff and dull-sounding. Sadly, I didn't find them to be anything like the product description suggested. The only thing I liked about them was the color -- the semi-translucent natural gut...
