Yeah these seem to exert WAY more lbs of pressure than the Rotos at the same gauge. It is staggering. I had them on my old Ibanez TMB100 and they pulled that neck way forward too, but it was enough enough getting it fixed.

I put on the Pyramids and adjusted the truss. It was close to maxing. I thought of adding the washers but it didn’t seem worth it to me; I would rather baby the neck a bit. Even at maxed it was still a bit bowed.

This seems to be my case as well, and I actually ordered those same strings today.

Certainly. I took the Pyramids off today. Took the truss off and lubed it. With no string tension the neck is perfectly straight. Put the Rotos back on with a slight shim and the relief is at Fender spec. I worked as a tech for a bit and the Pyramids just felt like too much on this bass—I had...

I did adjust the truss. It just didn’t seem to like the tension. I threw the Rotos back on and the neck is arrow straight.

Those are the ones I was using and the bass didn’t like them one bit. I mistakenly thought I had the 110s. With that said they are much much tenser than the rotos I have on now at the same gauge. Like I could feel the neck hating it as I tuned to E last night.

Turns out I actually had the 105 Pyramids in there but they seem bigger than the 105s the bass shipped with. Should I consider this a list cause if it can’t handle the 105-45 Pyramid flats?

Since it seems like my neck can’t handle the 110-50 Pyramids, is this a sign of a bad neck? It is profiled after a 64 Jazz bass. It handled the Rotos that were on it without issue.

Mostly google. The Rotosound and LaBella numbers are on their websites. The pyramid 105 numbers were allegedly on their site at one point but I can’t find them anymore (the numbers I am going off are from an old TalkBass thread)

Thanks. The LaBellas seem the way to go. I have a light touch with a pick and plan to use a mute. This neck is nice but lord it hates the Pyramid 110-50s so I will probably avoid the Pyramid 105 (which allegedly have a tension of 164 lbs) in favour of the LaBellas LTFs (136 lbs). The original...

Hmm that is an interesting take. Any particular models I should seek? I am a guitar guy who has been playing mostly bass lately and wants either an upgrade or companion to my Ibanez TMB100, which I do like.

The Ignitions or Contemporary? How do they compare in sound to an original? I mean I am mostly recording so As long as it sounds good and doesn’t feel like a bargain bin instrument I bet it fits the bill. Thanks!!
