Ampeg Portaflex bad circuit board (PCB)?

Well, this is Ampeg's (Loud Technologies) response to me: Hi Eric, That is not true. The PF800 has been as solid as a rock. The PF500, while having some issues (usually caused by customer abuse), still has a quite low failure rate overall. There have not been any major revisions to the...

Ampeg Portaflex bad circuit board (PCB)?

There is a known issue with these heads. I couldn't remember what it was. I though it was all of the PF-X00 class-D series heads, but I guess it was just the PF-500. I'm trying to identify the revised models by their serial number.

Ampeg Portaflex bad circuit board (PCB)?

Thanks, didn't know it's only the PF-500 that has that issue. Have you not had a problem with it, or do you just not use it at high volume? I did know they revised the PCB. I was wondering what year they did, so it can be identified without opening the amp. Thanks for the info on how to buy a...

Ampeg Portaflex bad circuit board (PCB)?

Sorry, yes the modern heads, I edited my post to show this. I searched for these models and can't find the thread that has this information.

Ampeg Portaflex bad circuit board (PCB)?

I can't seem to find some info I saw in a thread here. It gave the year of the new Portaflex heads (Edit: only the PF-500) when Ampeg resolved the issues that they had, and how to identify the fixed model by serial number. Also, I'm not positive if it was just the PCB or some other issue...

Bass Amp clipping or Pickups clipping amp?

You said 3 active basses all caused clipping, have you tried a passive bass through the amp?

Bass Amp clipping or Pickups clipping amp?

Not because it's low wattage, but because smaller practice amps usually don't have an input for an active bass (dB pad), or a gain knob to lower the input signal. The output of the pickups is too much for the amp. When you turn down the volume on the bass it solves the problem because it lowers...

Bass Amp clipping or Pickups clipping amp?

It seems like the output of that bass is too much for your amp. Looking at that Acoustic amp, there is only one input. Most amps, that aren't low wattage practice amps, have one input for passive and one for active (or at least button for a 15 dB cut of input signal). Try setting gain or...

Using a Capo for bass set-up.

A capo is used to check the neck relief. It's placed at the first fret and you fret the string at the last fret. You check the gap between the 8th fret (or 7th) with feeler gauges. Not absolutely necessary--you can you just use your fingers and eyeball it. If you have excessive buzz at frets...

Looking for AMPEG 810 Cabinet jackplate sticker / decal

I recently bought a used Ampeg SVT-810 cab and it doesn't have the label on the jackplate cover (3, 1/4" phone jacks and 2 Neutriks). I've searched for this and the only thing I can find is Ampeg's pdf manual that does have an image of this, but it's so low-res it's illegible. I even wrote to...

    Bass suffering from Oxidization

Probably rust. But it could also be nickle plated hardware that has tarnished and looks cloudy or whitish. You should ask what they mean or have them send you pictures. If it is badly rusted hardware it can be cleaned up somewhat. I had an old guitar with a badly rusted bridge that had frozen...
