Double Bass So I got an H-clamp - now what? Mic recommendations, please.

I wonder if stereo joe has had a success with the D2. For live gig setting, I plan to get H-clamp n to use dynamic mic to capture more on the 'air' rather than to rely solely on piezo. Not necesary capturing the detail, i just need a touch of acoustic sound with minimum bleed n feedback.

Double Bass String angle across the bridge

Reduce pressure on the top=change in sound/volume(softer, louder)?

    Double Bass Cutting string length

Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys. Yes I'm prepared for soundpost reposition. I would assume there would be no problem related to bass bar yes? What makes me concerned is to install false nut to compensate neck feel changes. I probably will have a guitar maker install it for me...

    Double Bass Cutting string length

Hi folks, i plan to cut the string length by +- 1/2 inch. Mine somewhat happen to be 42". Since there is no luthier around (have to have 2hour flight), i would like to know if by simply pushing up the bridge north will reduce the string length. Will it has impact to the bass bar/top/any...

Double Bass Review of new pre-amp/high-pass filter

hi just gonna shoot a quick response. the amp-less gig last night was pretty good in terms of that the signal problem didnt appear. before soundcheck i told the sound guy that the signal might not be strong enough. but after soundcheck he said the signal was fine, a little less than the guitar...

Double Bass Do we really need piezo-optimized DI?

so i assume sending my realist signal thru 5MOhm input of a stageBug 4 can result in pretty good loading for the mixing board. because to my ear, my phil jones BG 150 with its 4-5MOhm does the job well tonewise. (that's where i put the fdeck on the effects loops. just to clean up the muddy...

Double Bass Do we really need piezo-optimized DI?

Thanks guys for the response. Chris, I actually use amp like yours but mine is BG 150. Yes the DI produce pretty clean signal. However, Drurb just said exactly what I mean. I may have a situation when i'd rather stay with whatever amp n cab available on-stage. N fdeck is my swiss army for...

Double Bass Do we really need piezo-optimized DI?

Hi bassie thanks for ur reply. It's far better to have a DI with, say, 5MOhm impedance input like the Stagebug 4 has yes? Coz I'm not gonna put fdeck hpf before the DI input. I'm worried if I set the hpf, e.g at 10:00 to adjust stage situation, will sound 'thin' out front. Or I might be wrong.

Double Bass Do we really need piezo-optimized DI?

Hi, i have to say DI box is something that I never thought seriously. But when I read a thread about DI, it seems that a good DI is as important as good preamp/amp. Maybe. Not so sure. Now, I'm looking to get a DI passive/active. For a double bass with a realist, do we need a piezo-specific DI...

Thanks drurb. That really enlarges my knowledge on this.

Double Bass The advantage/disadvantage of Tube amp for DB

thanks guys so okay, what i gain why solid state is preferable among DBists: 1. power/weight ratio, 2. DB needs 'clean' sound better 3. solid state and other outboard devices now have ability to produce 'that sound' usually found on tube. do i perceive it correctly? now, is 'distorted'...

Double Bass The advantage/disadvantage of Tube amp for DB

Hi all, I have learned a lot from this forum about bass and amplification thanks to people here. However, This is something that's been in my head quite a while. I just cant find the answer in the previous posts. I notice (from a newbie' observation like me) that tube amp isn't used that much...
