love of Ampeg and other Scroll Basses, Part 2

Hey you all just to let you know, #1204 had her salsa baptism (well, I guess so...) : Oh what a joy ! Definitly a major difference with any other bass, and such a pleasure to play. It's always magic to discover a new instrument, especially such as this one, with offers you possiblities that you...

Thank you Bruce, much interesting Indeed the bass was quite easy to setup, I far as as can tell. I replaced the strings with the new Pyramid Gold that I received, custom made for the AEB-1. I am realy happy with them, they feel and sound great, not that far from the La Bella I have on my...

Those strings fit just perfect ! And.........here comes the SOUND ! I took a chance to open up the pickguard and see what's inside : the way that the diaphragm is settled on the wooden piece underneath, kind of askew, is realy weird 🙃

Thank you so much you all for your reassuring words and images ! All clear to me now ! This was the main defect that I could identify on my #1204, so I undestand now that it's as perfect as it can be ! Feeling better 😇 and even better since I received this today :

Thank you Bruce for those precise and precious informations about my bass 😇 Even if it's not realy playable yet (20 years roundwound strings make it realy tough, and action is a bit too high), I already love it very, very much ! I sure will take care of her :bassist: There is indeed something...

Ow ! Love to hear that ! I’m playing salsa too, and hesitating at the very moment between buying an original AEB-1 which hasn’t been played for the past 20 years (now on sale at a 10 mn walks from where I live…), or wait for a couple of years to get a brand new AEB-2 from Bruce Jonhson………. Being...

Hello everybody, dear Bruce, Don't know if it's the good place to ask, but I had no answer to may mail. Bruce, is it possible to buy from you an AEB-1 (I mean, one one of your production) ? To send it in France ? How long would it take ? How much would it cost ? Because I might have the...

Additional Precision pickup near the neck, worth it?

Original set lover wide range humbucker on my 1974 PB, sounds just great, big and deep :)

Precision Basses With a Neck Pickup Added

Just bought a 1974 modified PB with an original set lover wide range humbucker in neck position. Love it. Although I'm wondering about puting back original PB pickups to have more possibilities.... If, what would you mount ? Original Fender ones, or brand new Lollar or whatsoever good sounding...

Good question ! Actualy it says "sold" when it's not for sale anymore.... And what I observe is that the AEB-1 around 3000€ are "sold" and the ones at 5000€ are still for sale 3 or 4 months after the ad was published... that's why I'm intersted in your POV, you the AEB specialists !
