    New Wentz bass coming.

Pete doesn't need a tone knob because he doesn't know what that is and wouldn't know which way to turn it anyway. Actually, the volume knob is fixed at 10 and doesn't move either. TRUST ME, this is about as signature as it gets.

    Hipshot "B" Bridge Black Alum.

    Is this a thru-bass bridge?

The Fender Jazz Bass Club pt 2

I am currently building a Fender 5 string fretless bass with all black bridge, tuners, pickguard, and control plate. It is a sunburst finish. Should I be excited that this is the only one of its kind, or has somebody seen it before?

Jaco neck project. Need your opinion or educated guess!

I say road worn or MIM. If they're close in price, go for road worn just to have that little bit extra that will make it better; but don't think that the difference between MIM and MIA is as much as the price difference. There are two reasons that MIM is cheaper than MIA. A small downgrade in...

Cost of paying someone to solder pickups

thanks for the help, guys. I don't anticipate needing to solder a lot because I'm not the kind of guy who has/aspires to own many basses; even though it's probably something good to learn. This is just for my main bass so maybe it would be worth $30 to have someone do it right instead of...

Cost of paying someone to solder pickups

Hey, I'm building a bass and want to install pickups in it, but I don't have any equipment to solder in the pickups in. I can do the rest of the work (i.e. removing old pickups etc) but I'm wondering how much it would potentially cost if I just brought the body of the bass into a shop and asked...

I'm buying a new bass tomorrow, but i really need help.

I'm with LCW. If you have enough cash to get a music man brand new, you should buy the Ray34 and a MIM p-bass. Both of those together will probably cost you less money, and you won't be compromising on sound that much.

5 string or 4 string for starting out.

I played a cheap 4 string for about a year before a great deal on a 5 opened up and I even though I didn't know much about it, I played it anyway. It served me well, and I'm stuck with 5's forever. I say get a cheap 4 and then after a year or so, try out a 5 and make the switch if needed.

    FLEA-Best bass player ever???

I think Flea has found a great niche in music, and has developed it well to his own personal taste. I also think that people underestimate how original his ideas were for the early 1980's. Slap bass was a young child at that point, and nobody had given it that much intensity before him. That...

5 String Fender Custom Shop/Seymour Duncan Antiquity?

Does anyone know if Seymour Duncan sells the Antiquity J pickups in a 5 string, or if Fender sells their Custom Shop J pups in a 5? I'm looking for a semi-Jaco-esque sound but I'm a 5 string player and was wondering if those pickups were available.

    Drilling for New tuning machines

Hey, I just bought a 5 string bass neck and wanted to buy some black tuning machines for it. Unfortunately, there are holes drilled for 2-screw machines set on each side of the hole, and I am buying 4-screw tuning machines set in a square pattern around the holes. Should I fill in the...

    Installing a NUT

I assumed that all of the string tension on it would mean that I wouldn't need a ton of adhesive, so thanks!

    Do you actually dislike guitarists?

I agree, they can be a necessary evil, but I think that there are still many different makes and models when it comes to guitar players. I think the best guitar players are people who play other instruments as well (who preferably learned guitar after piano etc) because they not only have a...

    flats for michael kelly dragonfly

I own the MK dragonfly 5 fretless and I agree, it does sound best with flats. The one company I swear by, though, is the one nobody ever thinks of because they are a primarily orchestral string maker. Thomastik-Infeld of Vienna makes nickel-flats that will make your Dragonfly sing like no other...

    Installing a NUT

Hey, I just bought a neck online that came with a brass nut that fits perfectly, but is not actually installed in the bass. I was wondering what type of adhesive/wood glue etc I should use to install it.
