Most jazz players are so unconsciously influenced by pop and rock, with regard to volume level alone, that even straight ahead players often play really loud. Most combo situations call for some kind of bass amp. For upright, I really like the acoustic image.

I have a 2001 MIA fender 75 reissue with those pickups...I have played a million jazz gigs with them...I think they are fantastic. I don't know how they are for modern styles but for traditional jazz they are fantastic IMHO jim

I have two of the USA 75 reissue basses (years 2000 and 2006)...it is the only bass I play. All the parts and pickups are top notch and it has the perfect sound for traditional jazz. The build quality is higher on the usa 75. Better parts too! The mim will leave you wanting to upgrade...
