Ever figured that out? My friend gave me his RC-2 too look at. I'm using it by itself, no daisy chaining. Using both an AC adapater and a fresh 9 Volt battery; there is an audible hiss that matches the tempo of , well the tempo light. It gets louder with the Phrase volume control.

Type A and B can both be 3 wires. The difference is what's wired to the Tip/Ring making a Type A incompatible with things that need a Type B and vice versa. The link in the comment above yours has a great diagram towards the bottom showing the clear difference between Type A and B
