Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

Hi, First of all, my customer is delighted with the strings. It really was his choice and he isn’t disappointed. About the fit: no pics, but the D and A strings are perfect match (both length and thickness). The G string is a bit long, the string goes into the post past the silk, but there is...

    Höfner violin bass age

Hi ! Sorry for the late answer, it’s been quite busy lately. There is no label inside the bass. Is it a sign of recent instrument?

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

Another great input, thanks. We’ll see what he thinks about the tone of the TIs. The feel might be exactly exactly what he’s looking for. I’ll keep you posted of the outcome. Might be of interest what an upright bass player thinks of them. He also plays a « standard » Fender bass so he has good...

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

Ah! You make a point with the Pyramids. I talked to my customer about them, being kind of a standard for Höfner. But as I mentioned above, he wanted to have the upright bass feel and trusts TI, being a renowned brand in the bowed strings department. I, on my side, was mislead by my supplier’s...

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

Thanks for the feedback. I found a reasonable offer from a UK-based website on the right TI strings. My customer really wanted the TI as he already uses this brand on his upright bass and he also wants the lighter string tension (again, coming from the upright bass).

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

There are a few wildly recommended choices, yes. La Bella, Pyramid, Hofner strings, which I read were made by Pyramid, JH324H variant of the Thomastik strings. I’ll try to find a good deal for the TI but if I need to fallback to another make, I’ll think Pyramid will be ok.

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

The tuner hole can’t handle a 105 string, that’s for sure. I was counting on the short scale but it’s too long. I guess I’ll have to return the strings!

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

That is a good thing to know. Thanks. What about the non-Höfner version (JH324), is it supposed to be compatible with these basses or is my supplier completely in the wrong about it? I really feel like they are dead not compatible.

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

Still available, yes, but I was wondering whether it was still produced or not, as it’s not listed on the manufacturer’s website

Yet another question about Hofner bass strings

Hi, I have a Hofner violin bass in the shop and its owner wants to install flatwound strings. He also is an upright bass player and wants the deep and lush sound. After documenting myself, I advised him the TI jazz strings, but with some warning about the E string gauge. I received the strings...

    Höfner violin bass age

Hi bassists! So, there is this Höfner bass a customer of mine asked me to setup with flatwound strings, amongst other things. He bought it from someone who rarely played it, and thinks it might be old. It’s in pretty good condition appart from a weird oxidation I had never seen before, located...
