It still works well for me, but I have analog pedals, SushiBox and Becos to be exact, to offset any “digital sound” that may or may not be there.

Been using a MKI Stella for a while now. It is my favorite compressor and has remained a constant on my one board. Read through the manual when you get a chance. There is a lot of great info in there. I’m sure you will be happy with it, if not, you can flip it pretty easy.

100% leave it alone. Every bass I own except for one is finished in nitro. Play it and enjoy it, in a couple of years it will blend right in with the rest of the instrument.
