Help! At wit's end with setup. Can't find the gremlin...[SOLVED!]

Yeah... have tried all the usual places. No edit options on the first post or the thread title. I'm too noob I guess. That or it glitched when I originally posted and made two threads, which were then merged - that might have done it. Perhaps a mod could do me a massive and add [Solved] for me?

How on earth do you edit the thread title??? (sorry... bad pun) Added "solved" tag... but doesn't display in the forum list.

Full RCD protection on the power board. Which is lucky since I have tripped them a few times... ;P See... I am lucky really.

Haha - yeah... terrible luck on this one eh. But depends how you look at it - because it uncovered a significant issue... [Solved] now... My house had no earth. None. Had an earth stake with wire connected... just turns out the only thing it was connected to is the power meter casing. There...

Right... back from testing at the rockshop. Classic - think Stumbo was on the money with the first post. Seems like I have 'weak' power supply to the house. Rig sounded good at the rockshop. Was getting some clipping/distortion at loud volumes - but seemed pretty consistent with an Ampeg...

Help! At wit's end with setup. Can't find the gremlin...[SOLVED!]

Hold your horses! As I said - had to turn it up. To do that had to wait for the neighbourhood to wake up. Along with those who said to return it straight of the bat... I'm worried that some of you are pushing the beat. Gotta sit deep in the groove. Don't be premature - the ladies don't like...

Help! At wit's end with setup. Can't find the gremlin...[SOLVED!]

What’s wrong with this picture? One thing I can say for sure, is someone had opened this cab before. I had the wiring diagram... had already opened and re-wired one of these also. And remembered the bottom wire +ve —> -ve. Because it’s red, which is somewhat triggering since it’s plugged...

Wasnex - re: the series parallel circuit, I figure there has to be continuity given it ‘works’ at all - and the 2ohm reading is the two in parallel on one side and the other two are somehow bypassed. And I would assume it only takes one point of low resistance bypass (short circuit) to take out...

Help! At wit's end with setup. Can't find the gremlin...[SOLVED!]

Haven’t had a chance to troubleshoot further - will still have a look tonight. But some more possibly relevant info - both the cabinets sat for a long time unused. The one I have now has been obviously looked after and I really doubt it was ever thrashed. And I believe the guy I got it from...

Well there is an issue with the cab. So seems like I have managed to find two dodgy ones back-to-back. Learnt a new trick. Awesome guy at the music shop taught it. Place a 9v battery across the cab - check which drivers move and which way. Two of the drivers didn’t move (both same side, top and...

Thanks Wasnex. This is in keeping with what I am experiencing and what my testing shows. Packing the rig into the car and off to the rockshop now.

Sorry about the multiple threads before. For some reason the page doesn’t refresh once I hit post (or add file, or save). I took the rig to my brother’s house - no bueno. So not my power. I’ll take it all into the local tomorrow and test the ‘new’ cabinet with other heads and A/B the lot.

Help! At wit's end with setup. Can't find the gremlin...[SOLVED!]

I did think of this and have. But could be the whole house. I have noticed that I also get a hum on my hifi gear (old Plinius IIc/VIIc) that I couldn’t replicate at the place I got to recondition it. Guess I really need to take the whole rig to the local rock shop to rule that out. I woulda...

Help! At wit's end with setup. Can't find the gremlin...[SOLVED!]

To be clear - if there is a problem with this cab then I have some twisted luck. To be able to find two identical cabs that do the same thing. I think the most likely issue must be compatibility. This (type of) cab with this amp - something isn’t matching. All connections are as good as 1/4”...

Hi all. First post for me. Haven't played in decades. Getting back into it. Got my gear out and cleaned it all up. Had no cab. Bought a secondhand 4x10 Ampeg cab: B-series 410HLF (400W 4ohms). With my Warwick Streamer and Labsystems 250B I am getting crazy clipping/distortion like a horrid...
