The Uk has a great tradition of bass luthiers. One I remember from the 80s is Pangborn. The Warlord seemed to have more than a nod to Alembic and Mark King’s Warlord is apparently hanging in a bar in Amsterdam! I think the brand of Pangborn ceased in the 90’s but it seems Ashley carried on...

The one I play the most, because its the only one I’ve got! No seriously, I think there is great benefit in limiting your choice and exploring it fully. Too much choice can be distracting. This is my new build Overwater OS957 “Original”.

I’ve seen a few German basses on here but no Brits so far. Here’s my Overwater Original, an updated (2014) version of their fabulous 80’s design. I never thought I would be able to own such a piece of craftsmanship. Sounds sublime and feels sensuous.

Chris Squire used a natural finish jazz on Going For The One. Not quite Prog Metal, but pretty rocky for Yes.
