Theirs nothing wrong with playing with a pick. It comes down to what tone your looking for and what makes you comfortable. I play with a pick maybe 20% of the time on a regular 4 hour gig. I usually use it to cut through the mix better on particular tunes.

Anytime I have an audition I just write chord charts out for every tune, and just practice the songs at home until I'm comfortable. Just go into the audition with chord charts and be confident in playing the changes. If you do that theirs no reason you won't get the gig.
