Beatles White Album Period Analysis - An Amateur Identifying the Basses, Track by Track

Awesome amp! You must love it. Regarding the lead riff for Paperback Writer, there's still a raging debate going on whether it was the Fender Bassman or the Vox UL7120 prototype. Every time I hear someone cover it with a UL 7-series amp, clone or pedal, it has the "tearing" sound, but also...

    Paul McCartney's Fender Jazz Bass

He's secretly a Chromes fanboy. He just doesn't realize it. 😉 If the others in Wings played that '71 Jazz, how come it's back to being strung lefty? Paul has his own legit lefty Jazz... 🤨

    Paul McCartney's Fender Jazz Bass

The auction shows us a bass that has darker steel strings with angled shine rather than rounds, and there's blue silk wrap on both ends. Totally Chromes. The video he posted before he gave the bass up also has those strings, and it has that aggressive sound, but with a darker character: I'm...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I really wasn't able to fully resolve the BB415's twist issue, unfortunately. My local Guitar Center was looking at the trade in, but they just thought it "needed a setup", and tried to charge for that. Considering they never set up anything ever on their walls, I passed. Plus the guy looking...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

Update - it may have helped a little. The curvature of the neck seemed better after applying the strings properly and tightening the rod. I still think it could be a bit better, so I'm going to apply more stress to the treble side of the neck for a few more days. G is tuned nearly up to C, and...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

Not sure. The bass had some water stains or something on it. For whatever reason, I didn't notice anything untill after I put on La Bella Super Polished for a little while. Then I noticed weird fretbuzz on the lower frets after a few weeks on the higher strings. I changed the strings to Chromes...

Please go report this bass on fb as counterfeit…

Whether you hate FB or loathe it, those neck decals aren't legit. I've seen those many a time, and with them, you'll see where the bass was made.

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

One of my BB415s actually got a pretty nasty twist in the neck. Was bummed. I'm gonna try to see if I can remedy it by pulling the neck on the treble side...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I know the Japanese domestic market had a number of bolt-on analogues in the 80's for the top of the line 1000+ series. They have the same pickups & configuration, but have the one-pice maple neck instead of the 5-piece laminate, obviously lack the neck through design, and have standard dot...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I'm just going by what you posted previously - you LIKED it, but didn't LOVE it. I still stand by what I said. Good luck with your journey!

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I think you need to hold off on anything until you try an older BB. I've owned a number of generations of BB, from a late 70's BB1200 through a BBP35 from a few years ago. My current BBs are a pair of BB415s which I like very much. They're kind of like a "Classic Vibe"-esque reissue of the 80's...

NBD - Peak MIJ Yamaha Content

I did a little more setup today on this with a slight loosening do the truss, and I think I got the hang of the 3-way rotary selector... The rear selector position is what I think is what Yamaha wants you to think of as "flat". It's probably where I am going to spend the majority of my time...

I think the first TRBs were 34". Very comfortable.

I spent a little time putting on D'Addario XTs and lowering the action. If I thought it had mojo before I did that... D'Addario and Yamaha go together like PB&J!

This is a Yamaha TRB-5 in cherryburst. The serial number and deduction of the model lineage's timeline seem to date this bass to September 9th, 1989. Headstock is a little dinged up, but the bass is in nice shape otherwise. It is stupidly easy to play, and sounds great. I gotta put new strings...
