Educate me on Trace Elliot V-Type preamp

I used the Ampeg SVT or SVP I forget the name pre amp with a power amp and it provided good tone but it had an audible hiss. Pretty loud hiss actually. I wonder about the Avalon pre amps and if they might be good for bass? I heard a pro bassist comment he used one for recording and loved the...

Never-ending Journey…Replacing my SVT + 810 and Streamliner 900 + 410 Uber — help me find the best lightweight rig for reggae and ska

My favorite bass line on a reggae song is conscious party by Ziggy Marley and the melody makers. The bassist for that Grammy winning album for best reggae album in 1989 was Zelleke Gessesse. He recorded those sessions with an Ampeg B-15 portaflex. Check that tune out. So way phatt as is the...

Never-ending Journey…Replacing my SVT + 810 and Streamliner 900 + 410 Uber — help me find the best lightweight rig for reggae and ska

You aren’t going to “get it right” unless you try before you buy most likely. Went to an outdoor reggae show last summer. Not sure what amp they were using but they used an Ampeg 8x10,was super phatt. The band was slightly stupid. Their recordings are super phatt also. Just one example of way...

Never-ending Journey…Replacing my SVT + 810 and Streamliner 900 + 410 Uber — help me find the best lightweight rig for reggae and ska

I wondered about that. I’ve heard it referred to as hybrid. Tube and mosfet then I guess. Thanks for the correction on that. Like most my amps I like it most the time. I should get out and try some new stuff myself but Iam ok with what I have. It’s always kind of weird trying stuff at music...

? You see these questions all the time. What should I do? There’s a lot of good equipment out there so there’s a lot of good suggestions. The best suggestion is to go try a bunch of stuff out. I think at times we feel we just need something new. Not even that what we have isn’t working and...

Boutique basses of a bygone era?

Zons are a rare breed. It’s hard to get one to try one. They are hand built to order and not widely produced. I havnt tried all basses because really how can you? These boutique basses are rare. The used market can be a good place to start and if you order a boutique bass you need to be patient...

SVTII-Pro Modern Equivalent: HSVT-CL? Other brand?

I have three amps the other two are a Trace Elliot 300 watt GP12SMX and a Mesa Big Block 750. I love all three of them. I was gassing for a SVT2 Pro for years pretty much because an Alice In Chains bassist (I forget wich bassist) used them and I thought he got such a bad ass rock tone out of it...

Picked up this fine specimen from a pawnshop in Spokane WA. Not a scratch. In love with it. Even the mounting screw holes are untouched. 1200$

    Mesa big block 750

Pretty sure in the doom Gods declaration of doom it clearly states if you are using a Mesa BB 750 for doom you must use the OD circuit or be subject to public stoning in the village square.

    Mesa big block 750

I have a hard time getting a good tone out of the OD circuit myself but I like the tone a lot when I don’t use that OD circuit.

Why do you need to short it out instead of just replacing it?
