Hi Dirk, glad you likes the Mingus. I was lucky to come to The Stick from keyboards, so the two-part thing wasn't hard for me at all. What I really tripped on was bending notes and all the other expressive aspects of having my fingers right on the strings. Emmett was right on it as well...

Great thread. Interesting opinions, all, even those I hope are open to some evolutionary thinking. Things have changed a lot since Emmett first started making The Stick for other players (1974). 1. Different pickup options. There are 3 pickup options for most Stick models, the Stickup, which...

Three of a Perfect Pair Music camp w/Tony Levin

Hi MM, Thanks for remember that performance. NEARfest is an amazing event. I've got quite a few solo concert videos on my youtube channel: I think (but I'm not certain) that Tony will have some "hands-on" experiences for people who want to check out The Stick at his camp. Happy...

Three of a Perfect Pair Music camp w/Tony Levin

Hi everyone, Not sure if this is the best place on the forum to post this, but I'm passing along an announcement from Tony Levin about an event he's doing in August in New York. Sounds like a great time: ------------------------------------ Three Of A Perfect Pair Camp coming in...

    Need Help Choosing Bass Cab

Hi JR, I've been using a pair of Bag End S15LX-D cabs for years (most of the time I only use one). These are the warmest full-range cabs I've tried. Very natural highs from the coax tweeter. I have no idea what they sell for these days, and I think the LX-D is actually something you have...

Glad you like it. If you keep the ergonomic concepts in mind, and position the instrument as shown, assuming your instrument is set up for low action, it actually is easy. Playing two parts at once is a combination mental game and muscle memory exercise. Happy Tapping, Greg

Here's a new video that shows how the inverted 5ths tuning works for a bass + rhythm accompaniment in the left hand, which leaves your right hand free for melody and solo play. Any feedback on it is most appreciated - content, production, etc. Happy Tapping, Greg

Not sure if it would work for your instrument, but there are a couple of players who have made stands out of drum hardware. They are mentioned in these threads on the stickist forum: http://www.stickist.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2829&start=0&hilit=stand...

I know a few players who use a thicker belt, more around their waist than hips, like a scuba belt or weightlifting belt. I don't think there's an adjustable replacement belt hook for your instrument, but I'll ask Emmett if he has made such an item.

    Chapman Stick?

Hey Bar2Bone, Dispute away! There are solutions to all the issues you mentioned. I've had lots of students who were "grand-of-girth" and we were always able to work something out. A few years ago Emmett started offering longer shoulder straps to those who wanted them, and since 1994 the...

Hi Thunderthumbs, Does "Virginia Bassist" mean you live in Virginia? I'm in Charlottesville and I set up demos for people frequently. If you're seriously interested let me know via email (stickist_at_aol.com) As far as the risk goes, they hold their value very well. Most of the used ones...
