    Never look back to Fender

Could you at least give us a target of what it is in a bass you are looking for?

    P Bass Fretboard Discoloration

Depending on how one looks at it, the discoloration is either between or beneath string paths. If you play this bass a lot, this might be normal playwear. Or the neck just needs to be rubbed down with a hydrating fluid.

32” vs 34” scale for precision bass

I play DB, and I have played 34" and 30" electrics. For me on a long scale the distance between the first four frets is a bit too much, while from the ninth fret on up on a shorty things get crowded. I tried putting 32" necks on a couple of Ps, and as another poster mentioned, that appears to...

Can you identify what bass this is?

If you had to drive what the city of Birmingham created to get rid of Malfunction Junction, you would have a quadruple bypass.

And another quandary….no place to turn on Allen screws for action?

THAT is a horse of a different color. Only thing I can think of -- and I'm not completely satisfied with this solution -- is to gently tap a wooden wedge, like a shaved down clothespin, beneath the bridge cover to gradually leverage the screw up until, with the bridge cover pressed down, you...

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

About twenty-years ago our east-central Alabama band got invited to play for a girl's tenth birthday. In Deerfield, VA; it took us almost as long to get from Staunton to Deerfield as it did to get us from Gadsden to Staunton. The kicker was that neither the girl nor any of her family had...

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

Them was Van Morrison's first band. What you and your bandmates observed more likely was the Grand Tetons.

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

Probably if you'd done "Day by Day" you would have been left alone.

    Markings for fretless

One of the principal despairs of my bass-playing life right now is that the 34" mensure Eko fretless BA-4s, which have loud volume for an ABG and mwah for days, are all lined, and lined with bright white inlay at that. To cheat the bridge forward to make them 32" would generate note-location...

    Markings for fretless

In principle, I agree with this, but as one who has recently been experimenting with 32" scale, lines on a fretless can wreak havoc. to go from 34" to 32" I just cheat the bridge forward, obscure the factory side dots, and use file folder dot markers as side dots in the "correct" positions...
