Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

I generally find that most amp feet aren’t grippy enough. I can’t find my favorite replacements, so I tried some of these recently, and they’re working really well:

Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

My Legacy 800 mute switch is electronically silent - I can only hear the sound of a physical click when I switch it. There shouldn’t be EQ or functional differences, I’m 99% sure that it *is* the exact same preamp board (and mute switch) whether you’re talking Legacy 500, 800, or 1200. I...

What is the spiritual successor to the SWR Goliath?

That’s because DNA closed shop during (or shortly after) COVID.

    Bright J bass pickups

Bright pickups are often described as "airy" which (IMO) is a step away from a "punchy" sound - so you may have opposing wishes there. Since I can't know what sounds good to you, I'll recommend what I always recommend for "what pickup?" requests: Go to FatBassTone.com and listen to their...

Ear and tone perception calibration test (Fender JB American Deluxe + John Suhr)

That's like asking "Is garlic the best spice?" I love garlic - thank goodness my wife does too - but I don't put it on desserts, in my coffee, etc. My point is, even if I loved that bass tone, it would hardly be the right tone for every scenario where I want to play bass.

    Weird Ads

Blame the algorithm! The Onion bought "Infowars" recently, and last month The Onion started posting satire under the "InfoWars" (with a capital W) banner. A lot of this new content has my funny bone on speed dial. The problem is that Facebook's algorithm appears completely oblivious to the...

    Most Consistent/Predictable Flats?

Interesting question and it makes a ton of sense to me. I love the Olinto flats on my P-Bass now, but when I got them, each thinner string was progressively more twangy. But they are SO smooth under my fingers that I knew they were keepers. So I left the E alone, but then treated the other...

I’ve never seen one but I sure would like to

It’s wild to me how many of these rare birds I’ve seen and/or played. When I was in the Air Force, my “off duty” hobby when I was deployed was to seek out guitar shops. I went to a ton of cool shops and saw a lot of cool basses. Also, I think I’ve bought & sold a little over 90 basses in my...

    Looking at an Ibanez headless

Check in your electronics cavity - many of the EHB have a preamp with two inputs: BEQ3 and VM3. The BEQ3 input has *much* more top end, so you might want to try unplugging from BEQ3 and going into VM3. The Bartolinis in my bass are a bit dark, so I did the opposite. It takes about 30...

    Looking at an Ibanez headless

@ahbass2500 is correct - when you move your right hand to alter your tonality on a multiscale bass, you need to move it in a diagonal. The irony is that I find string-to-string timbre more consistent on multiscale basses; it's one of the big reasons why I play them! It's also why I use strings...

NBD: 1987 MIJ Squier Jazz Bass

I don’t recall the MIJ Squiers ever coming with tortoiseshell pick guards, but IMO they should have. I think the original pick guards were almost always white - which is why I always swapped them out!

It might be worth a drive - just double-checked the ad, and the guy is selling: Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 Genz-Benz 1288T-UQ Genz-Benz 115T-UB ...all-in for just under $800 I paid $500 for my Streamliner a couple months ago and considered that a great price. $300 more to also get a killer...
