What is a gain trimpot and what can I do to fix it?

I don't think its the gain. I've tried it on different amps and tweeked with the amps gain and master volume and the problem is still there.

The buzz gets worse when I turn the volume up. It sound like if it has a built in overdrive. I've tried on an ampeg, swr, hartke, fender, and aguilar amp. And it has the same problem on all of them.
