Double Bass Mesa WD-800 for DB?

I’ve been using an 800+ for upright for roughly 5 years now, I think it sounds great and I get a lot of compliments on my tone. I don’t think that it’s as transparent as an Acousitic Image; Boogie has a little bit of baked in sound, but it’s a long way from an Ashdown or SVT or something that...

Double Bass Pierre Joseph BRIDGE CHARGER (not String Charger)

I bought a String Charger from Pierre Joseph 20+ years ago, he sent along at no charge a “Bridge Charger”, an element that mounts on the bridge or underside of the fingerboard. I thought that this was mainly to pick up string click for slap players, but I have found that when blended with my...

Double Bass End Pin Replacement for Do-it-Yourselfers?

Reviving an old thread…I replaced my endpin recently, a new (to me) bass with a way too short endpin, I’m 6’3”. The replacement was too big for the hole so I flipped the new endpin around on the rod, taped sandpaper to it (Gorilla tape, preserving it’s conical shape) and reamed the hole bigger...

    Stringray intonation problem with flats?

Thanks y’all for your input. I removed and reinstalled the string, checked the nut and couldn’t find any pinching or evidence of a bad fit. I thought I had another set of LaBellas and was going to swap strings but I couldn’t find them so I thought “cheaper to buy a longer screw than a new...

    Stringray intonation problem with flats?

Now the intonation is accurate on E, D and G. Maybe the A is defective?

    Stringray intonation problem with flats?

The strings were basically in new condition. The guy was more of a collector, didn’t play much. The strings were still bright sounding. In fact I only have 10-15 gigs on the bass and they’re still fairly bright, not like the 20 y/o TI flats I have on another bass.

    Stringray intonation problem with flats?

I was gifted a mid to late 2010’s Stringray recently, came with LaBellas, love the tone. However I just realized how off the intonation is so I got to work and it’s good except for the A string. I have the saddle just about ready to come off the screw and it’s still flat. I think I need a longer...

Double Bass Jamkazam - Play with multiple musicians in real time in different locations.

Friday night I had a good jam with a friend who lives about 10 miles from me in Milwaukee and last night I jammed with a band from a Kansas City and it worked! I also played with guys from the west coast, (worked for about 7 minutes) and Alberta Canada ( too much latency). My computer is from...

Double Bass Jamkazam - Play with multiple musicians in real time in different locations.

I have been wanting to try jamming with someone so if you want email me at guyATguyfiDOTcom. Here’s my setup: 10 y/o HP duo core i3 running Win10, RME Fireface 800, fast ethernet connection. Jamkazam says I’m under 6ms latency, though jitter fluctuates between good and fair. I’m in Milwaukee and...

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

backstory...I've played upright and electric primarily. I got a Kala Ubass for several years and ended up occasionally using it on gigs I'd use the upright for (swing, folk, "acoustic"). I'm 6'4" and have big hands and liked the sound of the Ubass but not the tiny scale. When I got a chance to...

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

No, easy! And although they stretch a lot I found that if you can get most of the stretching and retrimming done in a week.

    Was that with the Thunderguts?

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

There's a video on the Kala website on stringing up the ubass, it's very helpful. They don't put the strings into the holes in the tuners.

    Which strings are you using?

    Gold Tone MicroBass Talk

Mine is fretless, with the Pahoehoes you can slide your fingers on the string and compensate for any intonation problems. With the Thunderguts I was not sure fretless was the right choice, but with these strings work very well fretless.
