Yeah I agree, stuff like that is better suited to a pedal board. Probably gonna stick a cheap boost in there just to see if I can. Think an MXR Micro amp would sound nice? Also, will having the boost's circuitboard so close to the pickups cause some sort of interference?

So I've got a MIJ Fender Jaguar bass. It's got a by passable active preamp that I hardly ever use. I was thinking that it would be a cool experiment to remove the preamp and replace it with the internals of an effect or something like that. I was thinking a clean boost pedal like the TC spark...

Surprisingly not. I called over a dozen pawn shops in my area a few days back and maybe one had an SVT. For the most part they didn't deal in music gear whatsoever. I guess the bigger music store chains and local classifieds have more or less swallowed the market for pawn shops around here.

Just ordered a Peavey VB-2 for $500, looking forward to it. It's not something I plan on spending money on immediately, but I was starting to wonder, how the hell does anyone decide what brand of tubes they're gonna buy for their amp?! The few written reviews I can find of certain tubes just use...

Who said it was going to frequently be leaving my home...or that I don't have access to a vehicle when I need it? More importantly, can we all just get back to the topic that this thread was started to discuss?

Not at the moment, although I am licensed. Not sure why that's relevant to tube bass amps though.

I appreciate the advice, but I know nothing about cars :) so most of those analogies were kinda lost on me. I'll definitely be more wary when buying used tube amps, but I'm still interested in knowing, what's up with the Peavey Alpha bass? At the end of the day, I just wanna f*** around with...

I understand that, I started at $1k, but I'm also simply feeling out what the cheapest option would be that would still be a decent amp.

Just spent several hours scouring Cl and the likes for all of your suggestions, boy was that a doozy. The only amp I could find that was sub $500 (and didn't need major repairs/retubing) was the Peavey alpha bass. Anyone know of/have any sound samples of this amp? Can't find anything on the web...

The Ampeg B25, is that a 25watt amp? Can't find much info on it.

Wouldn't 30 tube watts be kinda low, even for, say, a basement band practice with guitar amp, drum kit and vocals through PA?
