I was a guitarist before I was a bassist. Picked up the bass in 2006 when my son picked up the trumpet for school band so we could jam together. Wasn't until 2013 that I really started playing consistently. I'm in my 60's now and am one of the bassists for our church playing Christian rock.
I played lead guitar for a few cover bands back in the 70's-80's so I used my pinky in my solo's. I picked up the bass in the late 90's when my son picked up the trumpet for school jazz band. I kept using my pinky for the walking bass lines and to stretch over the 3 frets like someone else...
I played guitar from the early 70's to late 80's then quit. My son picked up the trumpet in school in the late 90's so I bought a cheap bass so I could play along with him. I now play bass for our church and love it.
