    Pick or Fingers for Live Playing.

    I always play with fingers, but only because I could never wrap my head around picking technique (I'm not half bad on guitar, but the string spacing and thicker strings make picking on bass super hard for me). I've got nothing but mad respect for the pick players out there.

    My fretted bass is a short scale. Lower tension and closer fret spacing makes bends and fast runs easier. My fretless is a long scale because I'm not doing either of those things on it, the note spacing means intonation is easier higher up on the neck, and for me higher tension helps make it...

    Bass through a guitar amp with bass cab

    Lou Barlow runs a JCM 800 alongside an SVT and a Peavey. Like you said, the cab is all you need to worry about.

    Some sort of octave fuzz. Preferably if I can seperate the octave and fuzz, but at that point I'm probably going against the spirit of the question.

    Bands that play stupid loud in a small bar

    I like it loud. The point is that you feel the music with your body at those kinds of volumes - with proper hearing protection, of course. If you ever get to play a DOD Meatbox into a good PA you'll know what I'm talking about. Venues start rattling. I do think that anyone who goes that loud...
