fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part VII - The Beat Goes On!)

'cheap but good'-crossover proposed by greenboy offers a wide selection of XO components. You have to transform AWGs into millimeters, though. Corobar inductors were recommended to high-power applications by local reseller. I bought Corobars for my 12/6.

fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part IV) On with the Madness!

It's Alpha-6A. FR is measured from the whole cab so it's a sum signal.

fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part IV) On with the Madness!

Response was measured outdoors but it suffers from measurement setup deficiencies. The cab was about 70cm above ground and the mic was also about 1m above the ground and 2m away from the cab. dB scale isn't calibrated so ignore it. I think most of the bumps was caused by setup. The most...

fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part IV) On with the Madness!

I play 5-string bass through a 12/6 and I can tell you: what comes to low end sound it's nothing short compared to 15". Low B is just as loud as the higher notes and it comes out with authority, no problem. In my point of view the only tradeoff between 3012LF and 3015LF is maximum spl...

fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part IV) On with the Madness!

I've been very pleased with my 12/6 output in every single way. Output is really even through the frequency range down to B string (maybe even lower?) and stays like that even when cranked a bit. So no choking but full tone all the way to the lowest notes.

    crossover calculator

I haven't claimed that 12/6 with my crossover is 8 ohm cabinet. We can rate it 6 ohm cab if it makes you happy. By the way, what do you consider as acceptable ratio between minimum impedance and nominal impedance? According to measurements made by magazines ratio 1/2 isn't really that unusual...

    fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part III) Getting Green!

We have spoken about this topic earlier, haven't we ;) And you replied as followed: Impedance falls to 4.5 ohms around 200Hz. It might be a bit too low for some amps to drive two of these in parallel. 2 ohm load acceptance by manufacturer wouldn't hurt in this situation...

    crossover calculator

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] you can see the Boxsim simulation I made. Impedance dips to 4.5 ohms at around 200Hz. I spent a lot of time designing the crossover so it would work fine with these specific drivers. I know what calculators tell but I ended using 68uF capacitor because 20uF...

    fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part III) Getting Green!

As the 12/6 is designed to handle even the lowest notes exceptionally well, you don't really have to worry about it.

Definately does. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is built from 15mm Finnish birch plywood and weighs 25kg ~ 55lbs.

Great work again, GB! Has the tuning frequency stayed the same? How does it compare to the 15/6 in terms of maximum output?

    fEarful™ 12/6 & 15/6 enclosure designs - FREE! (Part III) Getting Green!

We have to purchase an active crossover anyway so I'll try to find one with high pass filter (usually at about 40Hz?). There is a 9-band EQ in the desk. Lowest center frequency is at 63Hz so that is quite much useless for cutting lows from subs. Let's proceed with high pass filter. Form...

It's nice to hear that Codger's and mine work hasn't been useless. I think XO of our design will work better than generic Eminence one. I don't think that physical position of Zobel circuit does make any difference. I put it on the same piece of plywood as the other XO parts and it works...
