I just got myself an Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro short-scale bass for a piccolo. Unfortunately the ball end on regular D'addario guitar strings is too small. The ball falls right through the bigger holes on the bridge. Just an FYI for anyone trying the same. I will order the EXL280 piccolo strings now...

Has anyone ever tried putting Piccolo strings on their Variax bass? :ninja: For instance the D'Addario EXL280 strings, but there's others.

Thanks @lug. Just to confirm, regular guitar strings are long enough for the 30" neck? With plenty of wrap around the tuning peg? On the other hand, I know the Piccolo strings are harder to get and more expensive, but ... I contacted D'Addario about their Piccolo strings, and they said...

Sorry about that, it's not MIDI, it's 13-pin as you mentioned. I don't think wireless is possible with the 13-pin. :unsure:

Welcome to the club! That's a really cool idea. But if you want to use the GK-3B and the Variax in the same song/gig, would you have to switch your guitar cable? Or have 2 cables and 2 amp inputs?

Welcome to the club! You might need to re-solder the piezo pickups to the circuit board. Unscrew the bridge and check it out. They are little tiny wires coming out of each piezo. It's pretty easy to do, you just need a steady hand and pin-point solder gun.

Line 6 stopped making them in 2007, so it's true parts are hard to find, but I've found some parts on FullCompass and through Line6 themselves. Or you can find used stuff too, eBay, etc. Or ask around on the forums here. I have spare parts lying around. I really love these basses so it's worth...

Make sure the ethernet jack is working. It's the 2nd jack that's right next to the guitar input jack. That's how you plug it into a computer (i.e. update the firmware, use the software, etc). People love ramming a guitar cable into the wrong jack by accident, and it will easily destroy that...

The way I did mine, the tweeter works with the combo still. But for my separate amp, I didn't connect the tweeter because I didn't want it. That would require a "tweeter crossover" which is basically a high pass filter. Only highs get filtered to the tweeter and the rest of the frequencies go...
