That is what I was thinking as well. If it outperforms Varathane for top coat purposes and easily accepts pigments/dyes, then it may be worth having on hand.

I just got saw that Target Coatings is releasing a new water based 2k finish with no Isocyanates or aziridine. Hopefully it delivers.

I've been using the floor finish for quite some time and always had great results, except for black finishes which do have a blueish haze. Is there a difference in hardness compared to VU.

The Diamond Floor Finish is definitely a no-go over black, but I didn't know about it effecting red. I'm planning to shoot a candy red finish and you just saved me a lot of frustration. Lol

I believe Target Coating is working on a new formulation to rival the 2k water based version from Renner/Centurion, but with no isocyanates. I usually use the Varathane Diamond Floor Finish to give a little bit more scratch resistance.

I agree 100% but it's good to know that there is development going on on the WB front. Those companies do offer a 1 part formulation as well.

I was recently looking into anything new on the water based horizon and came upon Renner and Centurion brands. Some of these are 2k formulas, but supposed to be the current "end all, be all" for WB coatings.

I am going to use Varathane Diamond floor finish. I'll follow your recommendations and go with 5 coats. Thanks so much for the info. I have my fingers crossed for high gloss!

High gloss to coat a urethane resin part. Thankfully it's a flat piece for the most part and already pigmented black. My plan is to rough sand then spray one color coat just in case the rough sanding leaves any white surface imperfections in the top. I'll follow those with the remaining 9...

I'm curious to know if anyone here has tried Varathane over plastic, as a clear coat, if the plastic was suitably roughed sanded.

Bruce, thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going to pick up a gallon. If it performs as well or better than the tried and true Diamond Floor Finish, then I'm sold.
