Who's your "I just don't get it" artist?

You are absolutely correct, and I humbly retract that part of my previous post. Ignorance on my part.

True, people have received Nobel prizes for much, much less than that.

    4 String vs 5 String

I think it mainly depends on what type of music you'll be playing. A lot of modern metal uses low B, C, etc., and would suggest a 5-string. If you're playing '80s pop, I'd think that a 4-string would do. I agree with Billy Sheehan in that I'll be learning what a 4-string bass can do for the rest...

Who's your "I just don't get it" artist?

Bob Dylan. Horrible, horrible singing voice. Horrible, horrible harmonica player. (In Like a Rolling Stone his harp solo consists of a total of one position, breathing in and out. Also in that song he rhymes “unknown” with “known.”) Good poet? Possibly. Some of his material is actually good when...

Not at all; I've often wondered about that usage, so thanks for clarifying it for me. I've always been confident with quotes in relation to commas, periods, semicolons and colons, but I've tended to hesitate when writing exclamations or questions. Now I know.

Don't fret. Bass Viking erred in putting the exclamation mark outside, instead of inside, the quotes.

Dang, reading all of these posts, I'm glad that I have a family and that I know I'm too old to try to make it in the business. Even on a much, much, much smaller scale the business end of things sucks. I was in an acoustic duo, and it fell upon me to do ALL of the promotion, assembling...

    Songs tuned half step down

It depends. If the band uses standard tuning and the pitch is identical to the original, then you'll have to transpose everything half a step down. If they're tuned to standard and play the song a half-pitch above the original, then you can use the same fingering.

Funny. I have small kids, an okay job with crappy pay and crappy benefits, and I still wouldn't do it.
