    impedance vs sound quality

well, sorry to disagree again =) but, actually, 2 amps each running bridged into 8Ω will provide slightly more power (1680w each) compared to 1 amp running bridged into 4Ω (3000w)... either configuration can drive 2 subs... but 2 amps cost more than 1 - about twice as much =) that's...

    impedance vs sound quality

that IPR-3000 amp WILL bridge fine, as will 1600, which has been confirmed by Peavey engineers, and many users on their forum... and yes I am thalking about bridging an amp, any amp, or taking a mono amp, and either using it at 8-ohm output, or at 4-ohm output... what I'm trying to learn is how...

    impedance vs sound quality

ok, maybe I wasn't quite clear... I was not talking about building a cab with either a 4-ohm or an 8-ohm driver in it, I realize that most single-driver pro cabs are 8-ohm, and most dual-driver pro cabs are 4-ohms... what I was talking about was hooking up TWO identical 8-ohm subwoofers to...

    impedance vs sound quality

curious as to what you guys think on the topic of impedance vs sound quality... a vey comon technique with 8-ohm cabs is to pair them up in parallel, which presents a 4-ohm load to the amp... at a first glance seems like lots of free additional power, right? but I know that everything comes with...

Toroidal Linear vs Switch Mode Power Supply

in a round-about way, this thread started some interesting discussions... guess there isn't one good answer as to which technology to pick - there are many factors to consider and many designs to test out :) btw, while reading around today, I found another excellent collection of...

Toroidal Linear vs Switch Mode Power Supply

Jerrold, you've got an interesting perspective =) and what's your take on modern smps amplifiers? any numbers to pay attention to or just go by reviews? I am starting to lean towards Peavey IPR 3000 (non-dsp): Invalid Link Removed and Invalid Link Removed likey?

Toroidal Linear vs Switch Mode Power Supply

wow, BIG THANKS going out to Bob Lee for such a detailed explanation - I appreciate it... that's EXACTLY the kind of scientific info I was looking for - trying to understand the real-world differences between the two PS designs... would you care to comment regarding advantages and disadvantages...

Toroidal Linear vs Switch Mode Power Supply

I know that transformers don't store current, what I meant was I've been under the impression that capacitors (that do store current) are differently designed in toroidal vs switching power supplies... and as far as "linear" vs "non-linear", I guess I didn't quite get the difference, care to...

Toroidal Linear vs Switch Mode Power Supply

ok, I still haven't purchased the new amps because I'm still stuck on this whole "Toroidal vs SMPS" dilemma... we're talking about a large PA sound system, 8 hornloaded subs, 8 dual-15s and 4 single-15's, running at full blast for 8+ hrs at a time... built for DJ and EDM music to be played...

    ideas for PA subwoofer amps

I've looked at both Macrotech and Microtech, which are similar, but both of them are out of my price range... the best I could do is finding some used ones on eBay, but then there's this gamble of buying something that's been toured around and abused by roadies... I've also considered Crest...

have you ever ran those Carvins at full blast for extended periods of time? what kind of speakers do they power? any line voltage issues that you've noticed?

    ideas for PA subwoofer amps

I prefer 8 ohms for hornloaded applications - and I need 1400+ watts each, and the more headroom the better... the only amps that can do that per channel - and within my budget - that I know of - are ipr6000, cs4080hz, and ma5050... the rest I've mentioned in my posts would need to be bridged...

    ideas for PA subwoofer amps

I really would prefer 8 ohms per chanel for hornloaded subs, 1400 watts please =) XTi or XLS or XS or CC or PLX or RMX or IPR or CS or DCM ???

    ideas for PA subwoofer amps

that's a great suggestion, thanks! I haven't considered those, but I just looked them up, and the DCM 1504L seems like a good option... Class A/B instead of D seems attractive to me... has anyone bench tested these DCM amps?
