    The Fretless by FKT Audio

Yeah, I just saw this. To me it basically sounds perfect for what I want - those mids are just singing and the chorus/reverb mixes so well without clashing like some pedal combos do. The price tag is a bit much, though. Ends up being over 600$ CAD without shipping/taxes/import duty, etc...

    Duncan Heavy Weather pickups?

I'm very interested in these. I was contemplating in putting some Tom Brantley Geddy pickups in my fretless jazz, but I gotta say that these are swaying me to a different path.

SBO 2022 - Assembly Build of Fretless Jazz

Pau Ferro is pretty damn tough, no reason to epoxy it. It's not ebony, but still pretty tough. I've had my MIM Fender fretless jazz for a year and a half, play nearly every day, and it barely has any marks on it and definitely none that impact it in any way. Mind you, I've also never liked...

Man, this thread was a wild ride.

The Official Fender Player Series Bass Club

I have the stock Fender flats on my Player fretless jazz and I can't say I've experienced any issues with the neck, though I plan to put TI flats on it so we'll see what it's like with those lower tension strings.

    Alain Caron

Actually, now that I think of it, I think that was the first time I ever saw a fretless bass and my love of fretless can probably be traced back to that concert. Whooooaaaaaa.

    Alain Caron

I've only seen Caron in concert once, and it was awesome. He was playing bass for Mike Stern who was on a double bill with Stanley Clarke's quartet + Hiromi. It was an amazing concert and Caron, who was completely unknown to me then, blew me away.

    Jazz Bass Question

    Real jazz basses are fretless.

Non-bass instruments you own and play

Trombone - jazz and classical (orchestral and symphonic) - my main instrument until I injured my left arm a few years ago and can't play it anymore. Trumpet and soprano trombone - jazz Voice? - choral, occasionally barbershop and vocal jazz and growls on a friend's blackened-death metal demo...

the tone knob in a passive bass, for what?

On my fretless j the two extremes of the tone knob sound like completely different instruments (thumpy faux-DB or growly j), so I absolutely find it useful, even more so since finding this thread and learning how it actually functions!

the tone knob in a passive bass, for what?

This was a super useful discussion - I finally figured out how the tone knob on my bass works (what it actually does instead of just thinking "hey, this sounds decent")!

    Gojira new song

    So, it's a Super P, but I can't see if it's a P or PJ config. Can anybody tell?

    Gojira new song

I found I could feel the bass more than hear it, which I found interesting. It was like it was hitting me square in the chest.
