    Wireless IEM for pedalboard

Good results with Sennheiser XSW IEM set - with Shure SE215 headphones. It’s about the cheapest ‘pro’ solution on the market in my opinion. Been using it in my function band for the past 3 years or so - been perfectly fine! I have friends in other bands that use the Xvive and they are...

    Mark Bass 800 watt 410

That’s a lovely bass! But you lose points for sullying its beauty with an ugly clip-on tuner. Seriously though, that’s a lovely bass.

Double Bass What is the learning curve like as a new upright bassist?

It entirely depends on how much time you put into it and what you focus on first. If you are already amazing at scales, modes, arpeggios etc then you can focus on the physical aspect (ergonomics) and crucially finger placement for intonation. Be really strict on finger placement early on so you...

    Q the EQ

Complete nonsense. What’s the chance of the frequency center being the frequency you want/need to adjust? Basically none!

Double Bass Your motivation as a musician

Ooh existential question. I honestly don’t know what else I’d do at this point fortunately I don’t have to worry about it as my family would be in financial trouble if I stopped (I do approx 2 day/nights per week gigging and one evening jamming / creating music - which helps to keep things sane...

    Pro vs Amateur

I know a keys player who lived in LA doing session work at that studio. Big artist comes along and records album at the studio and then pays the session guys to go out on tour. Tour ends and my friend finds he’s been replaced at the studio and is now out of work. Moves back to England and...

    Pro vs Amateur

For my function band I trialled lots of musicians and one of the most important things was ‘what do you want to get out of this over the next 1 - 3 years, how many gigs per month, pay expectations, travel expectations, happy to be subbed if unavailable, what kind of music’ am now in a four piece...

On "paternity leave" - How would you re-organize this board for a 'mega church' worship setting?

Tell you what I’d do - but you might not like it. Sell it all except the tuner and wireless. Buy an HX Effect pedal and have one external amp sim pedal. Pocket the difference. Enjoy the lighter board, clearer sound, simpler set up and more flexibility. That’s what I did - and I’d recommend it!

    Trace Elliot 1210 Combo 500W

My first amp was a Trace Elliot GP7SM - a 15inch combo. I think what you are looking at is the generation after (with the light up knob rings) that’s mid 2000s. I’d want to hear it and check the speakers were in good condition - if I remember correctly they were using thick, uncoated cardboard...

I really like these visualisations - I find them easy to learn to without being a crutch:

    Vulfpeck doesn't rehearse

Well - they certainly ‘warm up together’ playing their songs together before going on stage. One might call that a little dust-off. And they certainly record pretty carefully.

    P Bass Fretboard Discoloration

Yep - some finger gunk and finger oil! The finger oil has probably penetrated into the fretboard a little - no bad thing! But a good clean with a soft cotton sock (like you wear on your feet!) dipped in water will a hint of washing up liquid and lots of effort will lift the gunk and even up the...
