Different tunings, do I need several basses?

So many people saying "just play a 5-string bass," "just transpose" I feel for you. First of all, because I'm going through the same thing right now (which is why I'm looking at forums, lol), but more than that because you've gotten so many self-centered and useless responses. Someone is going...

Which pick guard sounds the best?

    He said, “paper thin.” 😂

Which pick guard sounds the best?

Is that the new Claypool signature model?! Anyone say “Black Friday”?!?!

Which pick guard sounds the best?

I’m sorry, but the OP specified that he’s talking about P basses here. You’re exactly right when it comes to J basses; I’ll not argue with you about screw holes. More is better. But a P bass has completely different tonal properties – more balanced for one thing! – due to the symmetry of the...

Which pick guard sounds the best?

These are great questions! You’re exactly right about the pearloid effect; some people don’t realize what a difference the speckling has, especially in the low mids, which is probably what you’re hearing. Tort has a similar effect but tends to accentuate the upper midrange frequencies, which...

    NBD - Epiphone Embassy

It gigs great, doesn’t it? Works really well in a cover band situation, and would be even better if you were sticking to the genres it most excels in – like basically anything rock, I guess. It kills on all the harder stuff we do: Ac/dc , Weezer, etc.

I’ve got one, also in that beautiful “wanderlust green”, and also strung with EB Cobalt flats! It’s such a great value, iMO. It’s surprisingly versatile, too! I play in a dad rock / country / 90s / etc cover band and find it able to cover all of that ground quite convincingly. The blend control...

    JHS Punchline

It’s Thanksgiving here, and thankfully, I now have my Punchline!! 🥊 It’s on the Nano+ with just a PolyTune Mini 3 and my handy and highly versatile MXR Poly Blue Octave. That’s all. It’s the cleanest setup I’ve had in forever, and it sounds phenomenal – with each of my 3 basses and even my...

    JHS Punchline

So, here’s the real punchline: It’s finally “out for delivery” 🚚📦 … (wait for it) … on the day we leave to spend Thanksgiving with the relatives. (Thankfully, I’ve got a neighbor who can keep it safe for me until I return.) Assuming I ever get my own hands on it, I’ll let y’all know what I think. 🧐

    JHS Punchline

Wow. The song “Punchline” is terrible. Like, REALLY bad. It makes me wonder why Josh would choose that name. It fits in terms of a punchy single-line signal chain, but that song! Of course, with Josh’s sense of humor and irony, maybe it’s some kind of meta-joke, and the punchline is that the...

    JHS Punchline

It’s just been really sluggish. It’s at our local distribution center as of earlier this evening, so I’m expecting that it will surely be out for delivery tomorrow morning.

    JHS Punchline

So, while I wait… I’m in a 3-piece cover band playing mostly dad rock, w/some country, 90s, and party funk thrown in. (4-hour bar gigs, you know the drill.) I’ve been running a Fender Compugilist compressor/distortion pedal (designed primarily for guitar) into the front of my Rumble 800, then...

    JHS Punchline

I’ve been waiting and waiting on FedEx to get mine here. It’s been just shy of a week already, and I don’t live terribly far from Sweetwater. I’m on here reading the thread to as a coping mechanism 😂 Maybe tomorrow???

    Fender Rumble Club

Yes, my immediate thought was, “Skip the 100. Get the 800.” If money isn’t standing in the way, there’s no reason to mess with the in-between stages; if you truly want something bigger, go for the 800. It’s extremely versatile and powerful. I practice in the bedroom at night after the kids are...

    Epiphone Embassy Pro Upgrades

@LowEndLobster did a swap on his Epiphone Newport. He used the same Hipshots as indicated above (3/8”); his were lollipop style, but “same difference” as some say here in the South. The GB707 (formerly GB 7) also works as does the Res-o-lite GB350. So, that’s three that all drop in without issue.
