Dirt Dog has the right idea. Do multiple takes, beginning with the 'master shot' than play it over again as you get close-ups, reversals, etc. Then sync to the music for the edits.

It would totally be situational, on the type of music you play. Some types, like early rock, do better with the booming sound of the pick-up near the bridge while metal is better suited to the greater bite near the bridge.
