I ended up playing in the tuning DGCF, it made things sound a lot deeper which I love to hear and overall it was an ok song, only problem was I couldn't go down an octave with the solo part because of the tuning and key we played in.

Yes, that sounds about right.

Sadly it's not that simple. The original song is in B, we're playing it in F and I play in drop D.

I wish it was that simple.

Also the last part at one point drops to a lower octave, can anyone figure that out?

So if I want that "Ray" sound, that extra low, I should get a preamp with the MM pickup? I think for now I'll try just plain passive because that's what I'm comfortable with. The sound of the bass in that video is what I want so I'm thinking preamp is the way to go for that right?

If I were to get EMG MM would I need to buy a preamp? It's just a personal taste of mine but I try to stay away from active pickups but if that's the only way I can use a MM pickup I'll do it.

Alright, so all the places i have been too and read they all pretty much say the same thing, just not the type of gloss or clear finish that people use.

I was kinda hoping for an explanation not really a link to go and ask for the same thing.

So awhile back i put together a custom bass from a DIY kit. The only thing im really missing is a finish on the bass, i dont mean color by the way. I just want like a gloss finish, i dont really want a color. So my question is, how does a first timer bass maker put a gloss finish onto his bass?
