What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

The Gretsch had been gone for a few months – was nice to be reunited! They've been known to use a decibel meter then not invite bands back at this venue. Sounds like a good occasion for my new-to-me small combo. Does the "FET PREAMP" really matter? Maybe - I've always had good luck with them.

What Was the Best Stingray You've Ever Played?

My Stingray experience is not vast; I'd like to change that. I did once own a decent era 5-string with a nice honey finish & Birdseye neck, but it never did much for me. Could never settle on a setting I really liked and the low B didn't wow me at all. (That was 25 years ago now – damn, I'm...

    $60 Jazz 5 pickups from Amazon…

I'm not saying there is zero chance of those pickups being Lollar-killers? But I'll let you go ahead and try them first...

    Flats on a headless?

Thomastik flats are likely to unravel under a set screw clamp DAMHIK. :wacky:

Double Bass Your motivation as a musician

All 3 doesn't seem like too much to ask for. I'd settle for 2 out of 3 if the music was really amazing, or the experience would really broaden my horizons... or if my car really needed a new heater core.

    Apartment dwellers who play gigs

I should add that in all my years storing cabs outside thru all the seasons, I have yet to notice any deterioration due to heating & cooling. Come to think of it, the only woofer that's ever dried or rotted out on me was the 12" on my GK combo that I always took inside.

    Apartment dwellers who play gigs

Speaker cabs have lived in my work truck for decades. If one were to get stolen eventually, I honestly think it would be worth it for the literally thousands of times I've been spared the extra load at the end of a long night. I would do things differently if I 1) had a really expensive new cab...

2-Band Stingray Owners - What's your instrument EQ setting?

I would be curious to learn exactly how the classic Stingray differs from other designs with 2-band boost-only preamps – most notably Sadowsky. I love the Aguilar OPB-1 on my Roscoe Century. It differs significantly form the 'Rays with a bypass and a tone knob. I suspect the P/J pickups weren't...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

Since I found another good small combo, I was worried my Acme Low B-1 might get neglected. It won't continue covering every rehearsal & cocktail jazz gig like it has been. But it still has its occasions. 3 sets, good pay, not sure how loud everyone else is going to get. Might as well deploy the...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

Next time you see him you can mention there's a very happy user out in Oregon. :D Whenever a sound check goes lame and everything else is pure frustration & chaos, it's nice to know I have a little slice of bliss waiting for me when I switch my amp out of standby.

(poll) How do you use your Sansamp/VTDI/BDDI/etc.

Been using a 50W tube amp onstage that I freaking adore and inserting my passive JDI after that for the FOH without issue. Except, there's no way not to have that linked to my stage volume. I inserted the JDI ahead of the amp for a few shows, which seemed fine – until one sound guy needed more...

NAD - Thrift Store Score – Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 w/ 10" Docking Cab

Makes sense. :D At least with this lucky break, I don't have every second cousin I haven't heard from in 30 years coming out of the woodwork to ask for money.

    Active '51 Style Precision?

It is a little odd how active drop-ins have been available for split P & J routs for decades – and they've developed split & stacked humbuckers for the '51 – but nothing active yet. Maybe call EMG, see if they're up to a custom job? (They do make things to order IIRC.) Or get a Musicmaster which...

The Glamor of Being a World-Class Bassist

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

I didn't plan to use my new-to-me combo amp with an extension cab, its first time out. But since it happened, it was kind of fun, having a tilted monitor on top of my medium-duty 2x10. Will I do this on purpose in the future? Probably not.
