True bass content doesn't come from gauge. It comes from where you play on the bass, wood tone, and equalization.

Rotosound 66's or 77's. Really the only difference between the two is 77's are flats so lose a *little highs. But both of these choices are tailored for-heavy tone.

16 years here, been playing for a bit over 4 years. Disregard feelings, play music. Just do your best and consume music to play. Played everything from Bach to Rush to CCR. Feeling low in skill? Learn a new album.

For country style, you can go many routes: dark, fat bass that sits back in the mix for steel/electrics to really face forward. In that case, roll tone all the way down, bring up bass and (low) mid, bring down treble. Invest in some flats too. Fenders do fine and LaBellas are excellent. Also...

Listening. To other musicians, to other music, to someone other than yourself, to more wise musicians, etc. Also recognizing music when you hear it; rather than seeing a trill over a D minor in the notation and relating it to Bach, listen to it!

I don't come here to troll, but I really don't see why everyone's all excited about Jamerson's playing.... What's the deal? What makes him so good/better than other bassists and what proof?
