    Double Bass Re-using old strings???

so in the end....if i remove the strings i have now...put on new/different strings, then i should SAVE the old strings i just took off so i can put them back on later right? in other words, old strings can be re-used.....unless they are completely wore out of course.

    Double Bass Re-using old strings???

KUNGfuSHERIFF, that is an EXCELLENT instruction on the playing. intonation and tone is my strong-point. i have a great ear for that. i do instrument work on all my own instruments as well as others. im very picky. some musicians HATE to play with me because if their instrument intonation is...

    Double Bass Re-using old strings???

it is ALOT more physical than electric bass. been watching videos to learn different techniques and watching some of the guys making slapping look effortless, so i try it they way they do, NOT to play, just to get the slap down and the strings are too hard to slap for me, i DID make it work...

    Double Bass Re-using old strings???

im by no means new to music/instruments/luthier or anything else to do with music, BUT, the upright bass seems to be a whole new animal.. when playing guitar/bass, i like to experiment and find the strings that sound/play the best for "ME". simple enough... BUT, the upright bass strings...

Double Bass Someone help me out with string selection???

I did kinda already know the answer to my problem before asking here...but, with strings being so expensive its better to ask others their opinions of different strings in case there is something else that might be better or that I haven't found yet. As far as other issues, I do luthier work. So...

Double Bass Someone help me out with string selection???

no offense taken. i understand the technique. i've tried several ways to get it to work. ive even let another bass player attempt it, they was the same way, strings were just too hard. it is close tho, its ALMOST working, if i had just a LITTLE more flex in the strings it would work great...

Double Bass Someone help me out with string selection???

yeah thats what i was looking at was the Innovation Silver Slaps, with low tension. i got a good setup, everything is comfortable, sound is great. only problem is the strings i have now are medium tension and when i play them to get a snap/slap, it dont come easy as the strings need more flex...

Double Bass Someone help me out with string selection???

thats the thing, i play relaxed, i dont like to "force" anything. i dont like "having" to work at getting an instrument to play. to play "natural" for me, the strings i have now, Innovation Rockabilly, just catches my hands, no slap. i've lowered the strings down to where i almost have a buzz...
