OK - I have another problem with my Heartfield. For several years, I used the bass with the xlr on a direct line to the board with phantom power. It would not work without the phantom power. Now the xlr jack produces very low volume, scratchy sound - but the 1/4" jack works just fine. Any ideas...

IT sounds like you use the xlr jack on your Heartfield. Don't you have to use phantom power when you use the xlr? I always had to, and now the "experts" on Talk Bass are saying I "fried" my preamp. This is after over ten years of using phantom power at gigs. My xlr jack is now not working - and...

Could someone else weigh in on this? I have been using the bass onstage twice a week for over ten years using phantom power (the xlr connector would not work if the sound man forgot to turn on the phantom power). If the preamp was gonna fry due to phantom power, I think it would have gone long ago
