Thanks, Bruce - that all seems like pretty sage advice. I had read that necks after 70 were finished in polyester, but your observations seem spot on. I think if I take my time I can maintain most of the original finish and bring those spots back up to level. Thanks again!

Yeah, I've had reason to speculate that the body and neck weren't originally paired. I'm struggling like crazy to find much info about these necks, though - I believe 70's means it's a polyester finish, but I don't want to mess around with it until I'm sure.
