    Am I too old....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I started playing for the first time (any instrument) at age 58. After 2 years of weekly lessons and practicing 2-3 hrs per day I became good enough to play in multi genre bands. Now after 4 total...

    Worship Band Needs Improvement

Update - after trying about everything I know and those ideas suggested here I playfully decided to leave the worship group. I have to say it was liberating and it is so good to attend church as a worshipper and sit beside my wife. Churches are full of disfunction but worship groups can be the...

Who Else Started Bass at 58, or some other crazy old age?

I think the 100 gigs per year is the key to accelerated learning. You can only make modest progress without playing in a band situation. IMO - I was able to do 4 gigs per week for over 2 years since I was retired - 400 gigs in just 2 years....

Who Else Started Bass at 58, or some other crazy old age?

Started at 58 with weekly lessons, 4-5 hours practice per day and playing in 4 bands. Was able to get 10 years of experience in 2 years. Now at 62 I feel I have achieved intermediate level of play. Not sure I can get much better from here but like where I'm at :)

    Worship Band Needs Improvement

Yes all band members are frustrated and we have approached the leader as a group. Improvements are promised but not lived up to over the long haul. Leader and sound man are paid positions the rest of us are volunteers. Example - Easter Sunday set list sent the day before and 45 minute...

    Marcus Miller Sire P7 5er

I don't have a good way to measure actual weight but the UPS shipper says box + Bass + gig bag = 18 lbs. When I measure Bass only on bathroom scales the Sire P7 is 10.2 lbs but I don't know how accurate that is. I can't find any official weight in the spec's or from Sire. It feels about 30%...

    Marcus Miller Sire P7 5er

Order my Marcus Miller Sire P7 5er on Jan 29 and received it yesterday March 6. When I ordered it was schedule to be delivered Feb 15. This is my first 5 string and own Fender, Ibanez and Yamaha 4 string basses. I consider the overall quality of the P7 below all my current basses. The P7 has...

    Worship Band Needs Improvement

========================================================================= Thank you for the response - some great ideas - yes I have approached the worship leader 1-on-1 and as a group. He acknowledges and promises improvement but it doesn't happen. IMO there is NO excuse for not getting the...

    Worship Band Needs Improvement

I have been playing in my church worship band for about a year and the leader continues to send out these set list (charts) last minute sometime right before the service. No time to review songs that I may not be familiar with, run through the chord changes, overall groove or Bass riffs within...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Thank you for the reply - I play with a 4 string Fender American Professional Bass, MXR compressor and Ampeg SCR-DI. Great sound thru our house system. We play mostly contemporary Christian - electric guitar only, keyboard, drums, percussions and me on Bass. I only play 4 string and when we...

How do you like the tech 21 bass fly pedal? Do you use it in worship? If so, what songs?

    Am I too old....

I started playing bass, my first musical instrument at age 58. After two years of lessons and 2 hrs per day practice I was good enough to play in 3 bands. Now I'm retired and continue to play in multiple bands and enjoy. I don't think there is an age limit it's all a matter of how much time...

Review: Hal Leonard Bass Method Complete Edition

I bought book one and two with cd - took lessons based on material. then purchased complete set again with cd's. I used material for 2 years and found it really well organized and excellent for moving from beginner to intermediate bassist. I have 2 suggestions - #1 post the play along tracks...
