I’m right handed, so the head stock is facing stage left. I want that side away from cymbals. I also find it easier to communicate with the drummer, which is better for rock / dance sets as we drive the rhythm. For jazz or classics, I’m usually farther from the drums, so it matters less.

Haven't read the full list of posts and though seeing a lot of great players, it seems to include their root inspirers. So I’d offer adding Jack Bruce as one to listen to and James Jameson for setting a groove - not rock, but copied in rock stuff and almost anything Leland Sklar played on...

I have a '67 P bass outfitted with LaBella black nylons that is REALLY funky and great to play. My #1 is still the '98 Alembic Europa 5...it can just do everything, regardless of genre and is my workhorse.
