Double Bass GK 200MB hums when turned off

Something that has not yet been mentioned here, so I will contribute. The back panel where the transformer is mounted may have a resonant frequency of around 60hz. Thus, the vibration of the transformer is enhanced simply by it being mounted to that back panel. I suggest mounting it to the...

    Fender squier bass bridge cover

Hi,everyone, I have a Fender squier bass that I have fitted with a Warmoth fretless neck. Beside my point here, if any of you are considering replacing the neck on your electric bass, Warmoth makes excellent necks for a very fair price! Anyway, I would like to install a bridge cover. I would...

Double Bass transition from upright to bass guitar

Two fingers.....Actually, there really is nothing I dislike....just wondering what would change with different pickups, and if it would be a positive change. I see so often bassists and guitarists changing their pickups. Perhaps with bass it's not as critical.

Double Bass transition from upright to bass guitar

Of late, I have wondered if there is any worthwhile improvement in the sound of this fretless if I replaced the stock pickups? Any thoughts? If I did this, what would be a good choice in pickups?

Double Bass transition from upright to bass guitar

Oh my...it's been a while. Thought you all might like to know what I finally decided. I have four basses now....an acoustic upright, an electric upright, a Peavey foundation fretted bass guitar, and a custom fretless bass guitar. It did take some time to get used to the two bass guitars, and as...

    Double Bass spool clamps

And here's a photo of my clamp job. I'm sure you all will get a laugh out of this. As mentioned above, I scrounged for whatever clamps I could find, including borrowing from friends, and using rope. Humorous, but it did work quite well. A fine example of a home repair job in the kitchen of my home!!

    Double Bass spool clamps

Hi, everyone, Wow, it's been a few years since I took on this project. The bass has been finished for quite some time, and have been playing it with great fun! OK, per your request, I'll do some photos for you all. Let's start with a comparison of the two neck blocks. This photo is a...

Double Bass Type of chalk to use for fitting

I ended up using chalkboard style, color blue. Worked out pretty good. I've been busy getting the top in shape and glueing it back on. That's done, and now I'm finally ready to install the neck. Wondering how to get ALL the chaulk off now! I'm reluctant to use water....maybe paint thinner? And...

    Double Bass spool clamps

You all are great!!! Thanks so much for all your thoughts. After considering all your ideas, and doing some extensive searching on the web, I have completed the task of glueing the top on my bass. In addition to the several bar clamps I had, and borrowed, I borrowed a heap more bar clamps from...

    Double Bass spool clamps

Thanks for the input.....Powerbass, the steamer is out of the question...this is a laminated bass, and I fear it will delaminate with steam. I sure like the idea of the spool clamps.....if only I could make them cheaply. I do have seven carpenters clamps here, which is a good start, but still, I...
